Harold stopped struggling, looking around. “What else would it be?”

Roman reached down to right the chair, glad when Harold flinched. He hoisted the man back into position and leaned in close to his face. “I want information.”

Harold frowned, glancing at Jill. “Information? About the Senate?”

Roman curled his lip in disgust. “What would I want with that? I don’t give a shit about your conservative views.”

“Then what’s this about?” Harold demanded, looking more focused by the second.

“I failed to introduce myself,” Roman said, ignoring Harold’s question for now. “I’m Vincenzo Romano.” Jill’s mouth fell open and Harold’s eyes widened. The reaction was everything Roman hoped it would be. “I see you recognize the name.”

“No,” Harold denied, a little too quickly.

“Oh, I think you do. I think my reputation precedes me.” Roman walked behind the pair. Leaning down between them, he said, “But that isn’t important. What you should be worried about is that I’m Angela’s man.”

“Angela...” Jill whispered.

“You remember her, don’t you? Your daughter?” He moved back around in front of them. “The daughter you sold to pay off your own debts! You traded her innocence—her very soul—for what? Money? A house?” he yelled, barely able to restrain himself from tearing them to pieces with his bare hands.

Curses and grumbling sounded from behind him and he looked over his shoulder. The Midas Touch MC looked like they were ready to inflict some damage on the senator and his pathetic wife.

“They trafficked their own daughter?” Torque asked, his eyes narrowed dangerously.

“Your woman?” Midas confirmed.

Roman nodded his head, answering them both at the same time. “Yes.”

“I’ve always thought there was a special place in Hell for evil cunts who pimp out children,” Midas commented, pulling a gun from beneath his vest.

“Same,” Roman stated. “And I intend to send them there. Just not today.” When the MC members stood down, Roman glared at Angela’s parents. “Did you hear that? I’ll come back for you. You won’t know when. And you won’t know how. But I’ll be sending you to that special Hell, I promise you both that.”

Jill looked like she was about to pass out, and Harold started huffing and puffing. “You won’t get away with this. I’m a senator. I’ve seen your faces.” He looked around the room. “I’ve seen all your faces.”

Morrigan snorted and smacked him up the back of the head. “Like we give a fuck. Dead men tell no tales, Senator.”

“Besides, do you really expect me to believe you’re going to call the cops and tell them your daughter’s partner broke in and threatened your life because you sold her when she was a teenager?” Roman sneered. “Try again.”

“She had the very best education...” Jill began. But couldn’t complete her foul sentence thanks to Morrigan wrenching her head back with her hair.

“Really? That’s what you’re going with?” Morrigan hissed. “As if an education is a fair trade-off for being pimped out.”

Jill whimpered, closing her eyes. “That isn’t what happened.”

Roman loomed over the woman. “It is what happened. And you know it. You’re a greedy, sick bitch. And one day, I’m going to take your life, the same way you took Angela’s. This big house, your money... none of it will mean shit when you’re begging for mercy.”

“Spoiler alert,” Morrigan added, brandishing her blade in first Jill’s face and then Harold’s. “There’s no mercy to be had.”

Harold struggled for a moment longer before a look of calculation came over his face. “What is it you want, Mr. Romano? I’m a man with a lot of reach and resources. I’m sure we can come to an understanding.”

“Even if we spoke for a million years, I would never understand you,” Roman said firmly. “I want information. If you provide it, you’ll live to see another day. If not, well, I’ll be apologizing to Angela for breaking my word.”

“She doesn’t want us hurt? Of course she doesn’t,” Jill said quickly. “She was always such a good girl.”

Roman had his gun out and pressed into the woman’s temple in the blink of an eye. “Don’t. You don’t get to talk about her at all. Do you understand? Angela is off limits to you.”

Jill bit her lip, tears seeping from her eyes. Roman was unmoved. He knew crocodile tears when he saw them. All she cared about was saving her own ass. “The man you sold her to, what’s his name?”

“We didn’t sell—”
