“An entourage is safe,” Sal reminded Roman gruffly.

“But not exactly subtle,” Roman shot back quickly.

Sal snorted. “And a bunch of bikers are?”

“They’re local. They’ll blend.”

Abel laughed outright at that. “Sure. How many bikers do you know that blend?”

Roman literally ground his teeth, shooting daggers at Sal and Abel with his eyes. “I take Morrigan, a handful of men, and have Midas meet us there. Satisfied?”

Abel nodded silently while Sal answered, “I guess I’ll have to be.”

“Very gracious of you, considering I’m the boss and all,” Roman quipped. He pulled out his cell. “I’ll contact Midas now. See if he’s available tomorrow night.”

“Tomorrow? That’s soon,” Angela said quietly.

“Not soon enough. I want this fucker found yesterday,” Roman growled, putting his phone to his ear.

So did Angela, but the nerves skittering in her stomach told a different story. After all, once they had him, what would they do with him? She knew Roman would kill him, that much was clear. But what about her? Did she want to see him? Speak with him? Perhaps even hurt him with her own hands? She wasn’t sure.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

“Midas.” Roman greeted the larger man with a handshake.

Midas didn’t hesitate, clasping Roman’s hand firmly. “Roman. S’up?”

One corner of Roman’s lips quirked. “A lot.”

“So I hear,” Midas grumbled.

The drive to Paget Sound was issue-free if he discounted Morrigan sharpening her knives and muttering murderous threats the whole way. He had elected to drive himself, with Morrigan riding shotgun and two of his enforcers in the back seats. Another car had followed with three of Sal’s bodyguards. They had parked a few blocks over, waited until midnight, and walked to Angela’s parents’ home. His men were currently spread around the large property, and he’d just received word that all was quiet.

Looking around, Roman counted five members of the Midas Touch MC, including Midas himself. They were dressed similarly to Roman and Morrigan in all black, but that was because their leather jackets and cuts were black—not because they were dressed stealthily. He wasn’t too worried about being seen himself, but had gone with an all-black suit, including his tie. He had also chosen sturdy shoes in case he needed to kick someone’s head in. Some would say a suit was too much for the kind of work he was about to do. But he liked exuding power in all its forms.

“Thanks for meeting us here,” Roman said, looking around the perfectly maintained rear yard.

“No biggie,” Midas assured him. “The drive is one we make often. The club has some businesses in town.”

“I don’t foresee any problems, but I appreciate the backup. My woman wasn’t too thrilled with me leaving my best men with her,” Roman admitted.

“Well, I’ve brought some good men here. I promise you.” Midas gestured to his people, pointing them out one at a time. “You remember Crow? And this Torque, Beast, Grimm, and the little lady there is Belle. But don’t let her size or her name fool you. She’s the most lethal of the bunch,” he mock-whispered, earning a scowl from a very petite Black woman.

Roman glanced at Morrigan, who was eyeing the MC members like they were a bomb about to blow. “I find the females usually are.” His comments received some good-natured laughter. “This is Morrigan. I have five other men conducting recon.”

Morrigan got a bunch of chin lifts in acknowledgment but kept her mouth shut. Roman nudged her, and she rolled her eyes, pasting a crappy smile on her face. “Hello. Nice to meet you.” She turned to Roman. “Happy?”

“Ecstatic,” he replied deadpan, causing more snickers. He nodded to Midas. “Let’s get to it.”

“Sure thing,” Midas agreed, turning to his men. But before he could say anything, Crow spoke up.

“What’s the deal? Midas said these are your old lady’s folks?”

Roman didn’t correct him. Old lady was a term of respect in the MC world. It meant Angela belonged to him and was the glue that held his world together. It was an accurate description. “Yes.”

Crow grunted, looking at the huge, fancy house. “They do something you didn’t like?”

Roman hadn’t shared the details of why he was there, other than saying he needed backup for a personal job. He replied, “Something like that.”
