“Big step,” Sal said, watching Roman closely.

Roman shrugged. Strangely, it didn’t feel like a big step. It just felt right. “Yeah.”

“Well, congrats.” The smile on Sal’s face looked a little bemused, but it was genuine. “I think it’s great. Did Angel tell anyone?”

“I assume she’s telling Claire and Luca now,” Roman said. “But she hasn’t had the chance to say anything to anyone else. Besides, who would she tell?”

“Which leaves you,” Morrigan pointed out. “Who did you tell?”

Roman stiffened, trying very hard not to take offense. He knew Morrigan was just trying to get to the bottom of it, but he didn’t appreciate being made to feel like he’d done something wrong. “Colt, Sterling, Maddock, Teague, Alaric...”

Abel’s blue eyes widened with every name Roman listed. “Jeez, Roman. You told the frickin’ hired help that your girlfriend is moving in, but you didn’t think to tell me?”

Roman stared at Abel. “You were at the hospital with Claire all night,” Roman reminded his pouting friend. “And I only told Colt, Sterling, and Maddock because I sent them to gather some of Angel’s things. Something she wasn’t too thrilled about, by the way. I also informed my heads of security. I don’t believe that was out of line.”

Abel still looked miffed, and Roman was a little, too. It should have been happy news. And something worth celebrating. Instead, here they were, wondering who they were going to have to scalp.

“It wasn’t,” Abel grumbled. “It’s just a little unexpected. You don’t think it’s too fast?”

“I’ve known Angel for over a year,” Roman pointed out, wondering why Abel was acting strange. “And we’ve been exclusive for months. Besides, it’s not like time is going to make any difference. I’m not going to change my mind. She’s mine. I love her.”

“I know that. It’s just...” Abel shook his head, finally smiling. “I never thought I’d see you settle down. I mean, first Sal and now you? I hope it isn’t catching.”

“I think you’re safe,” Morrigan told Abel dryly. “Who’d want to settle down with you?”

Abel flipped Morrigan off before engulfing Roman in a man hug and slapping him on the back. “Congrats, man. I’m happy for you.”

“Thank you.” Roman slapped Abel on the back as well, making sure it was a bit harder than the one he’d received.

Abel pulled back, narrowing his eyes. Right when he was about to smack Roman once more, Salvatore moved between them. “Don’t start. We don’t have time for one of your slap wars.”

Roman knew Sal was right, so he pretended not to see Abel when he ran his thumb across his neck, like he was slitting it. It was the sign for you’re dead, which meant his friend wasn’t going to forget that Roman had gotten in the last word. Or slap, rather. Abel never forgot.

“Now, it’s not Colt or Sterling,” Salvatore was saying. “They’ve been on my team for years. I trust them. Maddock hasn’t been around as long, but he’s a good guy. You must think so too, Roman. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have sent them to Angel’s apartment.”

“I sent them because those are the three guys she likes the most. And I did think so, up until two minutes ago. Now I don’t trust or like any fucker in my building.”

“Present company excluded,” Morrigan stated, her eyebrows raised.

“Right,” Roman agreed. When she spun on her heel and stormed to his door, he called out, “Where are you going?”

“To get the five people you told,” she answered. “It looks like you may get to pound something after all.”

“She’s pissed,” Salvatore noted, wincing when Morrigan slammed the door behind herself so hard that a painting fell off the wall.

“She’s not the only one,” Abel muttered.

Roman walked to his desk, looking out at the city skyline. “Fuck!” he shouted angrily. “I don’t need this shit!”

“We’ll figure it out,” Sal vowed.

“We’d better,” Roman murmured. He wasn’t used to losing. First Godfrey and now a mole? It was unacceptable.

Morrigan returned with the five men a few minutes later. None of them looked guilty, but all of them looked confused and worried. “Which one of you is selling me out?”

Alaric looked at the other four men, before turning back to Roman with a frown. “What do you mean? Roman, I would never.”

“Of course you would,” Roman disagreed, focusing on his security specialist. “There isn’t much people wouldn’t do for the right money.” He leaned in closer to the shorter man, glaring at him menacingly. “Or the right threat.”
