“Roman,” Angela called. “Don’t kill him.”

Roman stopped in the center of the room. “There are many things you can ask of me, baby. But this isn’t one of them. He’s already dead.”

Angela was silent for a moment. She didn’t look away or block out the image of the man in front of her who was about to go forth and kill. She simply stared at him until a soft expression took over her still-pale face, and she relaxed back against the pillows. “Don’t get caught.”

Roman closed his eyes as his foundations rocked. They were three small words, but they changed his world. They weren’t the three he hoped would come with time, but they were the ones that told him his woman accepted him. He was truly hers. And, as of this moment, she was truly his.

When he opened his eyes again, Angel was still watching him, a small smile on her lips. He cleared his throat. “You know I love you, right?”

Her smile grew. “I know.”

“And you’re the most important thing to me on this whole fucked-up planet,” Roman continued.

“I know that too,” Angela confirmed.

He grunted, lifting his chin in her direction. “Good. When I come back, we’ll talk more.”

Angela nodded, reaching out to the kittens with an unsteady hand. “Okay.”

“Rest,” he commanded before leaving the room. After closing the door quietly, he leaned his back against it, his legs a little wobbly.

“Roman? Are you okay? Is Angel sick again?” Luca asked worriedly, coming down the hallway.

Roman shook his head. “She’s fine. Resting with Smithy and Wes.”

Luca released a sigh of relief before frowning. “What’s with the look then?”

“She’s mine,” Roman stated.

Luca rolled his eyes. “Duh. We all know that.”

His brother’s bratty ways made Roman feel better, and he pushed himself off the door. His arms snapped out in a flash, grabbing Luca and yanking him into a headlock before he even had a chance to yelp. “Yeah, well, now she knows it too.”

Luca stopped struggling, meeting Roman’s gaze as much as his current position allowed. “She does?”

Roman gave Luca one last noogie with his knuckles against his scalp before setting him free. “She does,” he confirmed.

“Oh, Roman. I’m so happy for you.” Luca launched himself at Roman, hugging him hard.

Roman hugged him back. “Thank you.”

He patted Luca on the back before releasing him and walking down the hall to the living space in his wing. When he got there, he found Abel, Salvatore, Morrigan, Claire, Mario, and Luigi. It’s nearly enough to bring fucking tears to the eyes, Roman grumbled silently. Out loud, he announced, “Time to get to work.”

“We’re all coming with you,” Salvatore said.

Roman shook his head, already stalking past them. “No. I need you to stay here with Angel. She might need something. I can handle this.”

Morrigan blocked his path. “She’s not just yours, Roman. She’s family. She belongs to all of us,” she pointed out in a low voice.

“Luca and Claire will stay in your wing with Angela,” Abel told Roman. “Alaric and Teague and a dozen other men are spread out in your apartment and at all elevator entrances. Plus, Sal got a few of his bodyguards up here as well. She’s safe.”

“We do this together,” Morrigan said, hazel eyes flashing with the promise of retribution.

“Together,” Roman agreed.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Roman nodded silently to the handful of men as they filed out of the room. They’d brought Brian to one of Roman’s properties at the marina—an empty boathouse close to the docks. It wasn’t much to look at from the outside, but it had a large, walk-in freezer that was completely sound-proof. Security was also top-notch.
