He placed the kitten on the carpet, and Angela followed suit. She bit her lip when they started to play happily with each other. “Do you really want to break them up? They love each other.”

“We’re not breaking them up,” Roman reminded her. “They’re just having some alone time, so they don’t annoy each other to death.” She nodded, still not convinced. Roman placed a hand on her lower back, leaning in close. “How about this? We do a trial. Just a one-day trial. And if either kitty gets depressed, you take both.”

“I couldn’t do that,” Angela denied quickly. “I’m not going to take your kittens away from you, Roman.”

“They are not my kittens,” Roman refuted. She shot him a look, and he had the grace to look sheepish. “Fine. Maybe I’ve gotten used to having the little fur balls around. But that just proves I know what good company they are. Give them a chance.”

It felt like a huge decision. So much bigger than it likely was. But she had never had a pet before. Not so much as a goldfish growing up, and none as an adult. It was a big responsibility. Not to mention, the choice had the ability to break her heart. She would surely fall in love with it, and those kinds of emotions terrified her.

“Okay,” she finally decided. “Let’s stick with the original plan. I’ll take Mr. White and you keep Mr. Black. We’ll re-evaluate tomorrow.”

Roman’s hand squeezed her hip where he was still touching her. “Wonderful. Oh, question: do feet have arteries?”

She thought it was an odd topic change, but she was always happy to educate people about medical issues. “Sure they do. There’s an entire web of arteries across the foot that extends down into each toe.”

“Huh. You learn something new every day. It’s definitely a record,” he murmured, then grinned boyishly at her. “Thanks, Doc.”

“You’re welcome. I guess,” she added uncertainly. “Do I want to know?”

“Probably not,” Roman admitted.

She sighed, placing the kittens on the ground, smiling when they began to tussle with each other once again. “I won’t ask, then.”

“Very wise.” Roman nodded approvingly—before falling into her.

They stumbled, ending up on the ground in a tangle of limbs. Angela groaned because she was on the bottom. Roman had managed to break her fall, though, wrapping his arms around her and protecting the back of her head. “What the hell?”

“I believe the kittens tripped me,” Roman said, his gaze moving worriedly over her face. “Are you okay?”

She had been fine until she realized they were now plastered together from head to toe, and she could feel Roman’s dick growing between them. She gaped at him. “Really? Already?”

Roman smirked. “I can’t help it. He has a mind of his own.”

She tried her best not to laugh. And tried even harder to stay still and not arch against him. He felt incredible, and she wanted him. But she had promised herself—and him—that she wouldn’t yank his chain. And, unfortunately, that included the one between his legs.

Suddenly, Roman jerked and swore. Then he went stiff, not moving.

“What is it?” Angela asked, worried. Then the realization hit her. “Did you cum in your pants? It’s okay. Don’t be embarrassed. It’s completely normal.”

Roman gaped down at her. “I did not jizz in my pants. There’s a kitten with its claws digging into my ass.”

Her eyes widened. “What?” She quickly scooted out from beneath him, giggling when she saw the little black kitten kneading Roman’s derriere. She couldn’t blame the animal—it was a great ass.

“Allow me,” she said, reaching over to unhook the mischievous fluff ball. A blur of white entered her field of vision, and the second kitten pounced on Roman’s back. The hiss that came from his mouth told her the kitten’s tiny little claws had made contact with his skin.

“A little help here?” Roman demanded, looking over his shoulder at her. “Or do you plan to leave me at the mercy of these beasts?”

Angela rolled her eyes. “Oh, yes. Such dangerous beasts.”

“Their claws are like razor wire!” Roman exclaimed, wincing when the black kitten dug its claws into the meat of his butt. “Ow! Damnit, Angel. Get them off before I fling them off.”

She was happy to learn Roman was all bark and no bite. He remained still as she unhooked the two little menaces, making no attempt to roll over or rise, and she knew it was because he didn’t want to squash them or hurt them in any way. He could be vicious when it came to people, but he was a softie where animals were concerned. She found it endlessly endearing. She couldn’t help but soften a little more towards him as well—and it wasn’t the first time. Somehow, over the past six months of her attending to stitches and bruises and gunshot wounds, Roman had stopped being a detested crime boss.

He was simply... Roman.

“You never mentioned their names,” Angela commented, once she freed him from the evil clutches of the baby cats.

Roman shrugged, reaching over to gently stroke the soft fur between the pair’s ears. She was back to holding them again as they stood in the center of his office. “I figured you’d want to name them.”
