I spun her, continuing to pepper kisses wherever I could reach. My addictive little nabi. I was like a lion, prowling in the thick of tall grass while I waited to pounce on her. I couldn’t get enough of her, and I couldn’t wait to take her on the new mattress waiting for us.

I carried her up the winding wooden steps, her laughter against my mouth sending warm sensations throughout me.

“Where are we going?” she asked, dragging my bottom lip between her teeth.

I didn’t answer her, just kicked open the door at the top of the staircase, then stepped into an open floor plan. There was a fridge, a microwave, and a sink to the right with a few cabinets. That space had a two-seater table, and then it opened into a living area with a three seater couch and a coffee table. Across the way was a bathroom and a bedroom.

Thea gasped, taking in the area. I’d repainted the walls, cleaned out the kitchen and replaced appliances. Replaced the carpets, and decorated the bedroom. All without her ever knowing. I came here late at night when insomnia kept me.

“Parker,” Thea said through an exhale. “God. You did this?”

“Yeah, baby.”

“Why?”

I shrugged, still carrying her until I reached the bedroom door. “I figured if you’re too tired to head home, you’ll have a place to crash here. I knew it wasn’t on your list of priorities, so I made it mine.”

“Thank you, Parker. Thank you for doing this. It means so much to me.”

She slid down as I reached for the doorknob and opened up the door. I guided her inside, and she spun, taking it all in. The common area hadn’t been decorated. But her room? I’d painted three of the walls gray. The fourth wall was an accent wall of yellow wallpaper patterned with white flowers and hummingbirds. The Queen mattress had the same bright yellow sheets with a gray striped comforter. And a ton of throw pillows. Yellows, grays, navy blues, all with flowers or butterflies and birds.

“This is amazing,” she said, her fingertips brushing along the edge of the mahogany bed frame. “Parker. I don’t know what to say.” Her head whipped around to look at me.

“You say ‘thank you.’ And then you sit on my dick and ride me while I tease your sensitive nipples.”

I was kidding, and she knew it. I’d never expect a sexual favor in return for a gift. But if she wanted to, I’d gratefully accept. I stalked toward her, grabbing her chin with my thumb. She was forced to look up at me, her brown eyes swirling with gratitude. And maybe even some tears.

Oh, fuck.

“Don’t cry, nabi.”

She shook her head. The movement pulled her face free and away from me. “I’m not sad.”

“What’s going on, then?” I stepped back to give her the space she needed.

Her arms crossed over her chest, and then she turned to me. “No one has even been so kind to me.”

That couldn’t be right. Thea was sunshine on Calder’s stormy day. She was hope when Hendrix held doubt. She was bright dreams through my wading nightmares. No one had ever been nice to her? I couldn’t believe that.

She sucked in a breath, her bottom lip quivering. She was trying to keep herself stoic. But she didn’t have to be brave for me. I wanted her when she felt weak, wanted to show her I could keep her safe.

“Thea. Talk to me. How can I fix this, sweetheart?”

She turned her gaze back to me the tears falling freely now. “I need you to let me be sad.” Her whisper was so low, her voice so broken, that my chest cracked right open.

I reached out, swiping my thumb to collect her tears. “Give me your troubles, nabi. I’ll carry it all for you.”

She nodded, her check nestling into my touch. Thea’s warm palm fell over the back of my hand. “You’re amazing. I’m so lucky to have had this time with you.”

I smiled, our eyes connecting, and I tried to decipher what she was thinking. Who hurt her enough to cry when I gave her a sweet gesture? “Who broke you?”

Thea’s sniffles filled the air. “It doesn’t matter. Just take away the hurt.”

I cupped her face with both my hands, then kissed her swollen, pink lips. She moaned into me, pressing her chest against mine. I pushed her against the bed, shoving her hard enough that she bounced when her back hit the mattress.

Her smile melted me. Sweet, sweet Thea, sad yet grinning as I climbed over her. I dipped my head to her neck, where I pressed sloppy kisses, until I yanked her shirt and bra up. Her breasts sprung free, bouncing with the force. Thea’s nipples were already hardened, aching for me to kiss them.

“Fuck,” she moaned, arching into my mouth. “Parker. I need you. More of you.”
