“The grandmother or the aunt?”

“The aunt,” the newcomer clarifies.

“Let’s discuss this in the conference room,” Kincaid urges when Stormy bristles with rage.

“What the hell?” Devyn whispers as we watch them walk away. “Can you imagine?”

“Becoming a parent of two kids in the blink of an eye? Fuck no,” I whisper.

“What about becoming a parent in general?” she asks, her teeth digging into her lower lip.

“We talked about that, baby.” I cup her jaw and lower my mouth to her ear. “We can pretend all the time, but you’re going to live a little bit of your own life before I make you a mother.”

Her hands cling to me. “Can we go pretend right now?”

I feel the eyes of everyone in the room on my back when I pick her up and carry her from the room.
