I never expected to be getting married. I never wanted it. But being with Maya for the rest of my life, I didn’t want anything more. Maya never expected to be able to get married either, and she didn’t have a lot of friends, or any of them, that she could invite to a wedding. We both agreed it would be best to only get married with the people that truly mattered to us present.

“We can do that. I can put up a sheet, and we can write down a priority list and we can work our way down,” Maya easily agreed.

“Works for me. How was Holly?”

Maya had called her after she agreed to marry me for real this time. I didn't know if Holly would be able to be down for the wedding or not. I knew she still had to be careful. I had asked Lucas to look into her case and her offender was still alive. There could still be a danger out there for her, even though it had been a good number of years since she had been attacked last.

“She was good and excited for us, happy for us. I asked if she thought she might come down, but now that she knows there is still a potential threat against her, she’s going to stay where she is. She doesn’t want to risk someone following her to us. We know the chances of her ever being found are pretty slim at this point, but it would increase her risk if she were travelling.”

I could hear that Maya was upset about not getting to see Holly or having her here for the wedding. I wished there was a way to protect Holly enough and eliminate the danger against her. Unfortunately there wasn’t anything I could do. All we could do was wait until the threat against her was dead.

“Why don’t we video chat with her at the wedding? She could still see it and share it with you. I know it’s not the same as her being there.” It wouldn’t be the same, but I was hoping it would be better than nothing at all.

“I’d really like that. That’s a great idea,” Maya said with a big smile, and I knew it helped to take some of the clouds away.

“Are you going to invite Hellen?” I was leaving that completely up to her. I had no idea how she felt about having Hellen around for personal events like this.

“I am meeting her for lunch tomorrow, and I guess I’ll see how she reacts to the news.”

“You think she won’t be happy?” I doubted it. She seemed to be pretty happy for us so far.

“No, it’s not that. I just want to see how she reacts before I make a decision. It’s still so new, and I find that I don’t tend to make any decisions where Hellen is concerned until I see her.”

“It’ll take time. Until then, do whatever works for you. We are still on for telling Zoey tonight?”

I wanted to make sure Zoey knew before really anyone else. She knew we were faked married, and she was okay with it. I was hoping she would be happy for us to be married for real.

“Absolutely. I’m looking forward to it,” she said with an easy smile.

“Good, me too. You know she is going to want to be a flower girl.”

“Oh, there is no way we are getting married without her being our flower girl,” Maya agreed, and I could see the love all over her face.

It was amazing to be able to have someone in my life that loved Zoey just as much as I did. Zoey had taken to Maya better than I ever could have imagined, and I knew she was going to truly benefit from having Maya in her life as a motherly figure. Now we just needed to give her the good news, and hopefully she reacted the way we were expecting her to.

The second we walked through the door Zoey was kicking her shoes off and dropping her backpack. The distinct thunk against the floor had both Maya and I looking at her funny.

“You brought home bricks?” I asked.

“No Daddy! We went to the library today. I got lots of books,” she said with a massive smile, and I knew we were going to be in for some interesting reading at bedtime tonight. It was good that she got some, and I was hoping they would be more than manga. She needed to also get an interest in other genres as well, especially once she would need to start reading books at school for homework.

“You’ll have to show us them. First though, there is something that Maya and I need to tell you really quick.” We could have done this over dinner, but I didn’t want to drag this out.

“Let’s go sit down,” Maya suggested as she slowly guided Zoey over to the living room.

“Is it the baby?” Zoey asked, worried that something could be wrong.

“No, nothing like that. The baby is perfectly healthy. This is good news” I said, putting her worries at ease. We all sat down, Maya and I putting Zoey between us on the couch, and I continued, “Maya and I are going to get married for real. If you would be okay with that.” I didn’t want to dance around this. It was always best to be completely open and honest with Zoey.

Instantly her face broke out into this massive smile. It was so big I thought it was going to break her face. “Really?”

“Would you be okay with that?” I already knew the answer, and I couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped me.

“Duh Daddy!” Suddenly her eyebrows shot up, and I could see a lightbulb going off in her brain. “Can I be the flower girl?”

Both Maya and I laughed at that. “Of course, you can be. Who else would it be?” Maya said with a rich smile.

“We’re gonna get married in a couple of weeks in the backyard, so we can go into Austin, and find you a really pretty flower girl dress,” I added.
