"And other projects? Can I pick what we do?"

"Get me the Charlie Morton book, and you get to take control of everything."

"I…" Teal looks around her apartment, and I see she is taking stock of her entire life. "I accept."

RIGHTS AND REASONS

Iwalk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator because I won't be able to for much longer. Well, I have at least a few months until it is really going to hit me but that is going to come in quickly.

And it's not just about being able to do it… I get to see Logan again, and I don't know what I want from him and need to delay that. I wanted him out of my life when he stormed off after I told him I was pregnant, but when he turned up at my home to tell me he would be there for the child, it changed something within me. Maybe the baby will have a father who might stick around…

I still don't know what to think about the job offer. I hate my boss, and triple my salary sounds like a trap, but I do know Logan a little and I believe him when he says something.

Head of my own publishing company? How the hell can I say no to that?

I can't wrap my head around any of it right now. All I can think about is Charlie Morton, though maybe not how she would want me to think about her. She is definitely not my type, but she is sweet in her own way.

So what is my type?

Whenever I wonder that my mind flashes up images of Logan without clothes on. I can't deny that he is a fine specimen of a man, but our whole thing is far too complicated for it to work. This is not one of Charlie Morton's romance novels.

I reach the top floor of the building and open the door, a little out of breath. Logan turns to stare at me from down the hallway, and as usual, he does not smile. His stoic exterior has cracked a couple of times, but not often. He might be exciting to be around at times (well, one time), but he's not someone who lives life as if each day is his last.

I put in my widest smile to make up for the two of us and head down the hallway to meet him.

"You took the stairs," he notes.

"Yeah," I respond, trying not to show I am a little out of breath. "Elevators have made us lazy."

"Are you ready to do this?"

"I think so."

Logan knocks on the door, and we are told to enter. Charlie Morton is sitting behind the large table, and there is only one suit with her this time. It feels less intimidating.

"Teal, it is so good to see you again," says Charlie.

"You too," I say.

It is good to see her, but I put a bit more oomph in my reply to show how eager I am to be at this meeting. I might still work for Good Relations, but that might change soon.

"Mr. McDonagh," says Charlie to Logan.

"Thank you for agreeing to see us," notes Logan.

He pulls out a chair for me, and I sit before he joins in the seat next to me.

"We wanted to take the opportunity to reiterate how much this book means and why we believe it is in your best interest to sell me the IP rights," Logan says, down to business as usual.

It is the single suit who talks first. "Miss Morton is aware that she has a prior relationship with Good Relations, but her duty to the company has been fulfilled. She does not owe them anything."

"But I do enjoy working with you," Charlie says to me.

I smile back at her.

"You do not owe Good Relations anything," admits Logan. "We can forget about the romance novels and any other novels for now. Your new book is something different, and we all know that. The IP rights to this book deserve consideration on their own, regardless of any past or future commitments. Let me ask you one thing, Miss Morton. Do you believe your book will be protected by anyone else?"

She looks at Logan but does not answer.
