My phone starts to ring, but wanting to stand my ground in front of Louis, I let the call go to voicemail.
It finally stops, only to start ringing again. Sighing, I dig it out of my handbag to see the school’s number flashing across the screen. I keep my eyes focused on Louis as I answer, “Hello?”
“Ms. Hemingway?”
“Speaking.”
“This is Principal Hanson. We need to know if you picked up Thomas during lunch time and forgot to sign him out?”
“No.”
“Then I need you to come down to the school. Thomas is missing.”
