A tear escapes from her closed eyes and trickles down her cheek.

For several seconds, while my dick twitches inside her tight walls, I’m not sure what to do. This isn’t the reaction I’d expect from an experienced woman, even if I slid too deep or was too rough. This is something else.

She’s a virgin. Was a virgin. No. Can’t be.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

No condom, against a shower wall, with my cock shoved against her womb. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

With a gentle hand on her hip, I pull out with the utmost care. She winces as I withdraw, and I feel it in my chest. “Are you okay?”

She nods.

I tug her closer, her back against my front, and wrap my arms around her. “You should have told me.”

Her heart pounds, but she doesn’t say anything.

“You were a virgin?” I ask the question, knowing the answer, but hoping like hell I’m wrong.

She shrugs, and it’s so cavalier that anger begins to simmer inside, overtaking the stark regret I felt a moment ago.

“Jesus, Lexie. Why didn’t you say something?” I reach over and turn off the water. “What the hell’s wrong with you?”

She shivers, and I pull away and step out of the shower to get her a towel. My mind is numb, but my dick still hasn’t gotten the message, and I grab a towel and hitch it around my waist.

“That’s why I didn’t tell you,” she hisses. “Because even though I wanted to give it to you, and even though you wanted it, you wouldn’t have taken it. You’d have walked away, like you’re doing now, and I’d never hear a fucking thing from you again.”

I might deserve every word she spewed at me, but I’m too furious to see it—furious at her for being reckless with her body, and at myself for being such a goddamn prick.

“And tricking me into it was supposed to change things?” As soon as the words are out, I want them back, even before I see the hurt in her eyes.

I grab a couple of towels and step back into the shower. “You were shivering. I was just getting you a towel. I’m not going anywhere. But I’m not fucking you against the wall either,” I tell her, rubbing the soft terry cloth over her skin until it’s pink and dry, and then wrapping a fresh towel around her. She doesn’t fight me, but she’s tense and uncomfortable, like she doesn’t know what to do with herself.

I tip her chin up and gaze into her eyes. They’re washed out, laced with sorrow. I would have preferred them flickering with rage.

“You didn’t trick me into anything. I wanted you badly. But it shouldn’t have been like that. You deserve something better for your first time.”

She reaches up and trails her fingers over my jaw.

I close my eyes as the emotion swirls between us, ballooning into a deadly beast. I want nothing more than to run before it has me in its clutches.

“What exactly is it that I deserve?” she asks, softly, and the beast is so close it swipes at me with its paw and draws blood.

“A conversation and some foreplay,” I reply in a tone that’s too dispassionate and clinical, even to my ears, and not at all how I’m feeling. But I can’t take the rank emotion for a second longer. I don’t want to hurt her, but it’s a matter of self-preservation. Lexie proved, again, that she’s an unpredictable risk-taker—that I can’t resist. “A lot of foreplay,” I tease, winking at her.

She pulls her hand from my face and narrows her eyes, readying them to shoot a dagger. “Don’t forget a sprinkle of sweetness.”

Her tone is so saccharine my teeth ache.

“I don’t do sweet, Angel. Never cared for it. Not with coffee, or cocktails, or fucking. But I think you’ve probably figured that out by now.”

She swallows hard.

“But after I’ve properly taken your cherry, I’m going to slap your ass, because you deserve that too.” I bring her hand to my mouth and nip her fingertip. “I’m pissed you didn’t tell me.”

“It wasn’t a big deal. You’re making more out of it than necessary.”

I secure the towel around her and set her cute little ass on the countertop before she can protest.
