“Busting nuts.”

“Uh, babe, you might wanna rethink this. We don’t want your blood pressure getting too high. Think of the baby.”

“He pulled a knife on Lacey!”

“I’m sorry—”

“No one was talking to you. Shut up!”

“I called Nich, he’s two minutes out,” Lacey stammered.

I took my eyes off the man for a split second to see where she was. She stayed behind the counter. Good girl.

Cindy was a few feet from me, looking like she wanted nothing more than to tackle me to the floor. She probably would have too, if not for the baby.

The door swung open, and two large bodies piled in. “Ladies, how we doing?”

I glanced over to see Spencer and Abel looking from me to the man cowering in the corner. I was guessing Cindy called them, too. Their shop was just up the strip as it was. Good thing they opened early.

It meant I couldn’t beat on this idiot, witnesses and all.

Sighing, I let my arm drop, the stick whacking my shin. “Mother fucker.” I huffed and let Cindy take it from me.

“You know, this is not good for your blood pressure, right?”

“He had—”

“I know. I know, but, babe, you’re pregnant. You can’t just—”

“Dana!” I spun in time to be engulfed by strong arms. I was so over this day already. “Are you all right?” He pulled back, looking me over.

“Hunky fucking dory.”

His brows pulled together as he gave me the once-over again. He wasn’t in his uniform but had a vest on over his T-shirt. I tugged at it.

“You brought a gun to a knife fight?” I asked, a smile playing on my lips.

“I did.”

“Are you and Lacey all right?” Noah asked, stopping beside Nich.

“Lacey is fine. I’m about two days shy of a padded room. Thanks for asking.”

Someone behind me laughed; Cindy. Traitor.

“Do you want to press charges?” He met my gaze.

“I’m not the one he pulled a fucking knife on.”

“I mean, I’m not hurt,” Lacey said, her voice shaking. “So…no? I think she scared the stupid out of him.”

“You are,” Nich said.

I’d let them work it out. I was done.

Waddling back to the counter, I waited ’til the latch released and snagged the sign from under the counter.

“We’re closed. I’m ten shades past done with this bullshit day. Lacey, sweetheart, go home and calm yourself. Yeah?” I moved to hug her.
