Gemma hugged me. “I know Claire said for you to call her. I would love for us all to get together, too. It helps so much to talk to other women who have lived through something similar.” She squeezed my shoulder.
“I can’t wait.” Tears welled up in my eyes. Gemma Thompson was absolutely gorgeous and sweet.
I was super grateful Holden wasn’t next to me when Hendrix Harrington smiled and shook my hand. I almost dropped to the floor and bowed at his feet. Hot wasn’t even the word for it. Thank God I didn’t have to choose between Holden and Hendrix. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to. My legs wobbled with nerves and excitement at the same time.
I giggled as Brynn gushed over Hendrix. She wasn’t inappropriate in any way, but she held onto his hand longer than normal. I glanced at Gemma, pointed to Brynn, and laughed.
“I’m used to it,” she said over the music, grinning.
“Gemma has nothing to worry about. She has Hendrix whipped. He’ll never screw around on her,” Mackenzie chimed in.
I threw my head back and laughed. “I like you already,” I said and hugged her.
“Omigosh, I can’t wait for us to all get together. It will be so amazing. We’ll order pizza, have some wine, and gush about our guys,” Mac said.
“I’ll catch you later, we need to set up,” Gemma said, patting my arm.
“For?” I asked, confused.
“Didn’t Holden tell you? He hired us to play tonight.” Gemma tucked a strand of her long, red hair behind her ear.
I fist-pumped the air. “Hell yes! That’s my man.”
We all chuckled, then everyone waved goodbye. Brynn and I sat back down, grinning at each other like two stupid teenagers.
“I would have fucking killed Holden if he’d turned on the bullet while I was talking to them.” I rolled my eyes and took a drink of the white Russian Brynn had ordered me.
“I would have giggled so hard I wouldn’t have been able to breathe.” She crossed her long, lean legs, showcasing her toned thighs.
“We have a great turnout,” Brynn said, her attention sweeping the large crowd.
Suddenly overwhelmed, my fingers white-knuckled my glass.
Zayne must have seen me tense up because he moved closer to me. “Are you all right? I can have Vaughn next to you as well. Say the word. At the moment, he’s on the other side of the room, talking with Pierce. I guarantee you that Pierce, Sutton, and Vaughn have men all over this place.”
I sucked in a breath, placing my hand on my heart, which was galloping in my chest. He was right. I was safe. Even when I’d run to the bathroom earlier, Holden had met me before I reached the restroom. I hadn’t been alone the entire evening.
“Welcome, everyone! On behalf of Holden, River, and Chance, welcome to 4 Play!” Hendrix’s voice boomed into the microphone.
The crowd erupted into loud applause, and I stood in order to see Hendrix. The band had set up in the back corner of the room.
“I’m Hendrix Harrington, along with my beautiful wife, Gemma, my guitarist Cade, and our amazing drummer, Asa, from August Clover. I hope you enjoy the music tonight.”
Gemma’s voice filled the area, then Hendrix joined in. Their harmony was to fucking die for.
“I never thought I would see them in concert, much less performing at a club I partially owned. Like, is this really my life, Brynn?”
“You bet your ass it is, and you deserve every amazing thing about it, babe.” She looped her arm through mine.
“You, too, beautiful.”
The music reverberated through 4 Play, and Brynn dragged me onto the dance floor, where Claire, Sutton, and Mac joined us. We danced in a group, giggling and cutting up.
Brynn’s face lit up as a dark-haired, tall, pretty girl joined us. Her red cocktail dress fit every curve perfectly. Her long hair flowed down her back, and her manicured fingers sported several diamond rings. “Mallory!” Brynn threw her arms around her neck and kissed her cheek. “Welcome home.”
Mallory turned to me, grinning. “It’s nice to finally meet you in person, River.” She hugged me, and I smiled at her.
“Welcome back. I can’t wait for you to meet Reid. He’s amazing.” Once the hugs were exchanged, she joined us, dancing and chatting.
