Reveling in that feeling, I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time for something and someone I knew I would never have.

As we pulled out of the lot, turned left, and the moment that open stretch of road laid before us, he hollered over the throaty roar, “Trust me?”

I didn’t even hesitate when I said, “Yes!”

With that one word, he revved up the throttle, and then like a bat out of hell, we soared over the blacktop.

The wind whipped around us, smiling so wide I thought my jaw would crack, laughter when we hit the curves, throwing my hands in the air. Knowing he had this handled? It was almost as if we did this a hundred times, and my body leaned with his instinctively.

Then, almost as if we had been riding for two minutes, instead of the half hour drive, we pulled into the parking lot for the restaurant.

And thankfully the weather was nice out, so they were open.

See, the thing about the place was that you sat on picnic tables that surrounded the grill and everything they needed to make the food. It really was a cool setup.

Not to mention, everything you ate came from the farm across the road, as well as the garden that was nestled next to the restaurant.

It was ingenious too, so if you loved the taste and the quality of the food, you could pick from the garden for your own table at home.

Unstrapping my helmet after he got off the bike, I handed it to him and once he hung it on the handlebar opposite his, Pipe held out his hand for me. “So that’s what it's like having someone on the back of my bike.”

It was almost as if the ride had caused something to change between us without me even realizing it. Because before, when he wore that guarded expression, I couldn’t read him.

But now… now it felt as though my soul has never gone a minute without his in my life.

“I’m the first one?” I asked him, knowing I was.

He nodded.

And the smile that broke out on my face?

Well, there were no words for it.

Pipe’s reaction was to wink and throw an arm over my shoulder as he led us to the hostess stand.

And the moment the girl standing there landed her eyes on Pipe, I knew that she was going to try to flirt with him. “Hi, welcome to Backyard Grill.” And yep, when she said that, she only had her attention on Pipe. There was also no missing the tone in which she had used either.

“Reservation for Pipe.” He said without even looking at her but at the picnic tables.

“I have it right here. For two?” She asked, again not even looking at me and all Pipe did was nod his head then and moved his eyes from the plate of ribs that had just been sat down on one table over to me.

“This place alright still?” He asked.

Wanting to tease him a little, I asked, “And if I said no?”

He shrugged. “Then we will get on my bike and go somewhere else.”

“If you think I would choose somewhere else after all the amazing smells that are wafting through my senses? You’re crazy.”

The hostess butted in and said, “Right this way.”

Nodding, I pulled away from Pipe to follow her and had to bite back a laugh when she started to walk in a sultry flirty way.

And when I looked at him over my shoulder, I saw that his attention was solely focused on my ass, and when he looked up at me, his cheeks were pink. He fucking blushed at being caught.

The laugh that ripped out of me had everyone looking at us.

After my laughing fit, I winked. “Besides, I would be a bitch if I told you I wanted to go somewhere else after watching your eyes as they trailed those ribs.”
