“See that guy over there?” she said, nodding to the corner. For a second, my hopes went up as I saw a really cute guy with short, dark, curly hair and dark skin. He was chatting to someone next to him.

“Okay, I’ll kiss him,” I said as I walked over, but then I realized there was a girl next to him. “He has a girlfriend.”

“Oh, I wasn’t talking about him.” She laughed. “Do you really think I’m going to have you kissing Michael B. Jordan’s twin? Ha. Dream on, Polly.”

“You’re such a bitch, Chelsea,” I said, shaking my head.

“Oh, you ain’t seen nothing yet.” She laughed. “Over there.” She pointed back into the same corner, and I shook my head.

“I don’t know who…” My jaw dropped. I saw who she was pointing to. It was a tall, buff biker dude. He must’ve been at least three hundred pounds. He had long hair and tattoos everywhere, a long beard, and he looked like a Hell’s Angel on speed. “Oh my gosh. Chelsea.”

“What?” she said. “Go on.”

“Chelsea.”

“Yes?”

“Anyone else.”

“Really?” she said. “Anyone else?” She looked over at Screech, and I shook my head quickly.

“Fine, I will kiss him.”

“I want you to get onto his lap and—”

“I’m not getting on his lap. We didn’t say all that. I’m just going to give him a quick kiss.”

“With tongue,” she said.

“No, thank you. Would you have done tongue?”

“If it was Jake,” she said, laughing.

“Well, yeah.” I glared at her. “I can’t believe you’re going to make me kiss that guy.”

“I am, and you need to do it now before you chicken out.”

“I hate you, Chelsea.”

“I know,” she said. “Now go.” I glared at her as I summoned the courage to go over to tattoo guy. I knew that I had to do it. When Chelsea, Harriet, or I bet each other, we had to follow through. It was only right, even if we ended up having to do something as awful as kissing a guy like the guy in the corner.

I made my way over and hoped that he would jump up and leave the bar before I was able to say or do anything. But I didn’t have any luck today. I sauntered over to him and then stopped casually by the table. He looked up at me with a gruff face.

“Can I help you?” he said in a deep voice.

“Hi. I’m Polly. We haven’t met yet, but…”

“Yeah?” he said.

I took another step toward him. “Well, I just…” I didn’t know what to say. I studied his face. He was not as bad-looking as I’d assumed from far away. And even though he was really big, he was muscular. He was the sort of man that one would find sexy if one was into bikers, but that wasn’t really the sort of guy I was into. “So look, this is really awkward, but you see that girl over there?” I nodded over my shoulder because I knew Chelsea was watching.

“Yeah, the one that just waved,” he said.

“Yeah, that’s my sister.”

“She’s cute. What, is she into me or something?”

“No, but we had a bet and…”
