I want to tell her just where she can shove her threats. I open my mouth, but no words come out.

Because, yes, while she’s annoying, a part of me can’t help but feel grateful that Penelope has somebody like Jade in her corner. Somebody who’ll stand by her and make sure she’s safe.

Even if it’s from me.

“Crystal.”

In a blink of an eye, that calculated look is gone, and her expression turns warmer. “Great. Now that’s over, what kind of coffee do you want?”

I open my mouth, but before I can answer, I hear soft footsteps coming from the hallway.

“Sebastian?”

Happy shivers run down my arms at the sound of Penelope’s voice.

Jade gives me a knowing smirk as she looks over my shoulder. “Look who finally decided to join us.”

I slowly turn around to find Penelope standing in the doorway. She’s sleepily rubbing at her eyes, her hair a wild mess of curls around her head.

Fuck me.

She’s never looked more gorgeous than at this moment.

“Jade?” Penelope lets her hand drop, a confused look on her face. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to bring your roomie a change of clothes like you asked. For thesecondtime, mind you, since you guys were asleep earlier.”

“Really? What time is it?”

“Almost five.”

“Oh.”

She shifts her weight from one foot to the other, the collar of her oversized shirt slipping slightly and revealing a patch of creamy skin. No bra. She’s been sleeping next to me all night in that shirt and nothing else.

My dick twitches in interest, and I’m grateful that there is a counter standing between Jade and me because she’d probably get an eyeful right about now.

I should look away.

I know I should, but it’s like my eyes have a mind of their own. They zero in on the exposed collarbone, and I can’t help but wonder how she’d smell if I buried my head in the crook of her neck or how she’d taste if I pressed my mouth against her skin. How her legs would feel wrapped around my waist as I slid inside her.

“I guess I crashed after I realized Sebastian’s fever broke. Did you see him?”

“I’m here,” I rasp out, my voice feeling tight.

Her head snaps up in my direction, different emotions passing over her face, but then a smile spreads over her mouth.

“Hey, you’re up.” She walks toward me, Henry going to her side instantly. Absentmindedly she places one hand over his back, but she doesn’t stop until she reaches me. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m fi—” My words are cut off when she raises her free hand, placing it over my forehead.

“You don’t seem to have a fever any longer.”

Maybe not, but I’m burning for a completely different reason.

Get a grip, dude.

Henry lets out a soft bark, drawing Penelope’s attention. She lets her hand fall, and I miss her touch instantly. “He needs to go out. Henry, harness.”
