“I want you so much,” Alina said, almost breathless. “I need to feel you in me.”
Dereck wasted no time after that, shedding both their clothes in less than a minute. When he hovered over her, he made sure she knew. “I love you so much.”

Dereck grabbed her hand and brushed his lips to her outer palm. “I could barely sleep with you by my side.” Then he placed his hand on her stomach, his touch reactivating intense sensations. “I can’t believe we’re going to be a family.”
“Listen, Dereck.” Alina cleared her throat but turned away from him. “Last night… I mean… we shouldn’t have done that.”
Dereck’s face became long. “Alina, I know you still love me, and I love you. We’re having a baby. What do I have to do to prove to you we belong together?”
She shook her head, her breath getting rapid as she shifted on the bed. “It’s not that I don’t love you Dereck, because I do. I’m just uncertain we should be together. We’re too different and things always seem to get complicated between us.” Alina took a deep breath. “I’m just saying that maybe all this is because we’re not meant to be. After all, you only came after me after you found out I was pregnant.”
Dereck was not easily rattled, but the thought of losing Alina again made him uneasy. “Alina, all that matters is that we are in love with each other.”
“Love can’t sustain a relationship, Dereck. There needs to be trust and reliability.” Alina was sitting now, the cover pulled up over her breast.
“I told you nothing is going on with Amanda and me. She’s just a co-worker that is friends with my sister.” Dereck combed his hair with his hand and propped himself up with his elbows.
“It’s not as simple as that,” Alina stressed, her voice high-pitched. After taking a deep breath, she brought it to its normal level. “Your sister will never give up on trying to split us apart.” She sighed. “She told me she wanted to give our relationship a chance and then she brought a woman to dinner. For you.”
“I’m sure Dina meant nothing by it.” Dereck couldn’t bring himself to speak badly about his sister to Alina. Not when he was trying to get them to get along.
Alina wasn’t accepting it, and she released a sharp breath. “Listen, Dereck. We cannot work if you keep making excuses for her, because we both know she called you to that dinner for a reason.” Her eyes were fixed on him and her lips slightly pushed out.
“I know. I’m sorry. I just don’t want you to think that Dina is all bad. Once you get to know her, you will realize how loyal she is.” There was a sadness in his eyes as he propped himself against the headboard.
Alina leaned back on his chest, and Dereck covered her with his enormous arms. “I can see how committed she is to you and I know your sister has good qualities too, but I won’t see them if she doesn’t give me a chance.”
“I know, but she’ll come around eventually once she realizes I will never give up on you.” Though Dina was the subject of their conversation, Alina knew Dereck’s words were meant for her. He wanted her to know that he was never going to give up on her. And if she was honest with herself, she would realize that she didn’t want him to. Wrapped in his arms, Alina felt protected. She felt as if she belonged.
“You know, with the baby on the way, a lot of things are going to change. Are you okay with that?” There was a hopefulness in her voice. Alina wanted Dereck to be part of her life as much as she wanted him to be in the baby’s. “I mean, our priorities will have to shift.”
A smile spread across Dereck’s face and he wrapped her even tighter. “As long as I am with you, I’m willing to do anything.” Then he trailed kisses along her neck.
Alina closed her eyes and leaned back into him as his fingers found her center and slipped inside. She moaned and widened her legs as he deepened his reach.
“You’re so wet,” Dereck whispered in her ears. “It’s driving me crazy.”
