“Let go, Cora,” Giroth grates out from above me, never ceasing his pace.

At his command, I do, and with a groan, he follows over the edge with me.

GIROTH

My chest heaves against Cora’s as I begin to regain control over my body. With a groan, I roll off of her, landing with a soft thump on the bed beside her. As I catch my breath, I allow my eyes to rove over her again, relishing in the pink of her cheeks and the glassy, half-lidded quality of those beautiful, stark blue eyes.

I will never, ever get enough of her.

Cora turns her head to look at me, smiling shyly as if we haven’t lain together a million times before. I find myself smiling back, unable to help it in the face of such easy, genuine joy.

“You distracted me,” I say into the companionable silence. She arches a brow, and it’s all I can do not to laugh at the sudden haughtiness in her expression.

“I distracted you?” She repeats, rolling her eyes. “I’m pretty sure you were the one who distracted me, seeing as how you owe me a surprise.”

I huff a laugh, pushing out of bed and pulling my breeches back up.

“You would’ve gotten your surprise a lot sooner, had you not looked at me like that,” I remind her, crossing the room and grabbing the tray. Cora’s eyes sparkle as I turn back toward the bed, the smell of fresh, still-warm food wafting from the tray in my hands.

“Is that breakfast?” She asks excitedly. In lieu of a response, I take the lid off, revealing piles of the small pastries Cora has grown so fond of. She grins up at me, snatching one off of the tray and ripping a bite from the edge.

“Mmmm,” She moans happily, her pink cheeks rounded with the size of the bite.

“I’m glad you like it,” I say between laughs. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for my little human– luckily, however, I’ve found she’s quite easy to please.

Cora scarfs down three of the pastries before I’ve even finished my first, turning to me with a mischievous smile.

“So, is this something I can get used to? Breakfast brought to me in bed?”

“As if you aren’t already spoiled enough,” I mutter back, a smile tugging at the edges of my lips. She swats at me half-heartedly, giggling.

“And whose fault is that?”

“Noted,” I retort, arching an eyebrow. “I’ll make better efforts to ensure your attitude is less of a problem.”

“That is not what I meant and you know it,” Cora giggles back. Dim sunlight plays across her blonde hair, still sticking out wildly from sleep and our little distraction. I have never seen anything so beautiful. I’m still unaccustomed to feeling so… content.

I sigh, tearing my eyes away from Cora. The sunlight that’s growing steadily brighter only serves as a reminder that, unfortunately, there are things I have to do today.

“I need to go check on the hounds,” I say, pushing out of bed. Cora pouts, and I have to bite back yet another laugh. Gods, I’ve never laughed as much as I do with her.

“Walk with me?” I ask, extending a hand. She smiles, taking it and allowing me to lift her out of bed. Before long, we’re both dressed more appropriately and walking toward the kennel, Cora chatting idly about a dream she had last night.

As we near the outskirts of Ti’lith, I pull Cora closer to me, painfully aware of the presence of every demon around us. Cora is mine, in every sense of the word, and I don’t take her safety lightly.

Especially in the face of others who may take her.

Thankfully, only a few demons are bold enough to allow their gazes to linger on her, their attention quickly snapping away from us when they notice me scowling at them beside her. I make a mental note to move the kennel closer to the property– having to go anywhere near the city with Cora is too unsafe with the King handing out human women like prizes.

I’m deep in thought when a sharp impact against my shoulder nearly makes me stumble. I whirl on the demon beside me, my lips curled back in a snarl and muscles bunching, ready to eliminate any threat to my little human, only to face to face with Prince Rej’thorek.

Remembering myself just in time, I bow curtly, though I’d like nothing more than to lunge at the male.

“Prince,” I grind out.

Rej’thorek straightens, his gaze icy. His eyes flick over my shoulder, taking in Cora, and his face turns sour.
