“Maybe,” Rooster said.

“We think so,” Stash added. “He’s the only one that makes sense.”

“It’s good he got away though, right?” Jenna went on.

Talon

The text had come through while Talon was on his bike, so he’d waited until he was at a red light to pull out his phone and read it.

Stash hadn’t pulled any punches, so as soon as Talon hit the compound doors, he made straight for Jenna, crowding the side of her chair. “You okay?”

“They said Edward might have escaped,” she said. “So that’s good news, I think.”

Talon reached out and squeezed her hand. “Tell her the rest of it,” he said, standing so close that his chest nearly brushed her arm.

“Rest of what?” Jenna echoed, turning back to Rooster and Stash.

But it was Gate who answered, “If he’s escaped, we don’t have eyes on him. Don’t know where he went or how far he got.”

“And if they find him first….” Ryder’s voice trailed off as he leaned back against the sink on the back wall of the bar.

Jenna buried her face in her hands, “Shit. This is bad.”

Talon stroked fingers down Jenna’s arm and she raised her eyes to his, “He got survival skills? He hunt or anything?”

“He can order take out. That’s about it,” Jenna said.

“Almost dark,” Gate said to the group.

“Can’t ride in on a bunch of Harleys,” Ryder observed.

“For all we know, they’ve already found him and taken him back to the shack,” Rooster added.

“Smart play is to wait until we’ve got some daylight and then go in quiet and see what we see,” Gate said.

“Brick’s coming in tonight, and Nine’s on Cassie,” Talon said.

Gate shrugged, “Nine’s our best chance of finding him if he’s still out there.”

“And we need to decide how much collateral damage we’re willing to cause,” Talon said. “This goes all the way to Freemont, we’re taking on a whole new set of enemies.”

“Meeting tonight. I’ll talk to Nine before he goes out, but as soon as Brick’s here, we’re in chapel,” Gate said.

Ryder poured Jenna a healthy shot of whiskey and slid it across the bar.

She picked it up and took sip, “Cassie? Is she okay? Do I need to take her home?”

Talon laid a hand on Jenna’s back and soaked up that touch like it was sunshine. “The only brother in this club closer to the edge than Brick is Nine. They’ll have to kill him to get to her. Trust me.”

At Gate’s nod, Rooster and Stash picked up their tech and gathered photos.

Jenna followed them with her eyes, “Thank you for what you’ve done. I wouldn’t have found him without you.”

The brothers accepted thanks and made for the hallway back to their techno-den.

Gate cleared his throat, “Ryde, somethin’ needs doing. You in?”
