The proposal, as annoying as it was, was only a blip, a slight setback. It wasn’t like I was going to take it any further, I could humour Lorenzo for now while I decided which plan to execute to destroy the man who had taken so much happiness from me.

“I’ll be back soon, I hope.” I said while tugging my clothes back on and slipping my feet into my heels.

I smoothed my hair down and hoisted my bag onto my shoulder, then moved back to the bed and perched on the edge, Toby reached out and trailed his fingertips down my back.

“I know you will, stay safe little one.” he said, and I leaned down to kiss him goodbye.

His hand trailed back up my spine and into my hair. His mouth moved in slow motions against mine and I cupped his cheek as my lips parted and my tongue found his, hoping that my message was clear,I’ll miss you.

“I’ll miss you too.” he breathed as I reluctantly pulled away and he graced me with a heart stopping smile. I melted on the spot and shook my head at him.

“Unfair. How am I supposed to embody my inner bitch when that face is all I’ll think about today?” I groaned.

The smile dropped from his face, and he pulled what I presumed he believed was an unattractive face. It wasn’t.

“Good try, not enough though. It’s ok, I’ll see Adonis soon, that’ll help.” I said with a shrug.

“Uh huh,” Toby responded and raised his brows at me.

I narrowed my eyes in question, but he just simply shook his head at me and rolled over to face the wall.

“Get home before someone notices.” he said, and I brushed off the weird moment and made my way out of Adonis’ apartment.

“I can’t do this again M,” Clive whispered as I opened the guest bedroom door, “Please be more careful in future.”

I turned to face him and smiled apologetically, “I’m sorry.”

He had managed to sneak me in. I’d bribed the gate guard to let me in without telling Lorenzo and when I emerged from the garage Clive had been waiting. I wasn’t sure at first if I could trust him, but he’d given me no real reason not to, except for Lorenzo being his boss. I took a chance and it paid off, when I was halfway up the stairs Lorenzo’s door had opened, and Clive had shot up ahead of me to greet his boss. Lorenzo had heard the garage doors close, creepy, and wanted to know what was going on. Clive lied and said that one of the girls had borrowed one of the cars to go and get fresh coffee as we were out. I guess Lorenzo doesn’t keep track of the stock in his kitchen as he accepted that explanation and closed his bedroom door.

“Thank you, Clive.”

“Be careful M.” he said quietly, then turned and made his way back to the stairs.

I closed the door as silently as I could manage and pulled my clothes off as I headed to the shower to wash away the scent of Toby from my skin.

Once I was dressed and my hair and makeup were to their usual work-day standard, I exited the bedroom and found Lorenzo waiting at the top of the stairs. As usual.

“Good Morning amore mio.” he said, “Did you sleep well?”

“I did.” I said bluntly, and looped my hand around his waiting arm, as we now did every fucking morning.

“Good, although you’d sleep better inourbed, you should come back soon.” He turned his head to face me, most likely gauging my reaction to his use of‘our’.

“No thanks.” I said flatly, hiding all expression from my face. This was how I was training myself to be with him now. Emotionless, or explosive.

“We’ll see.” he said mildly and glanced down at where we were connected. “Ring?” he said, the gentle tone vanishing as he realised that I’d taken it off.

“I took it off to shower,” I replied, “And there isn’t much point in me wearing it anyway.”

He paused on the stairs, then without a word, spun us around and dragged me back up them and to the guest bedroom. He threw the door open with such force that it slammed into the wall behind it. I swear I heard Adonis say something from his room, but I wasn’t sure. Lorenzo pushed me into the room with a fiery look in his dark eyes.

“Put it back on,” he growled.

I stood still in the room, shocked but not showing it.

“Now.” he bellowed.
