“Thank you, Daddy.”

“But you know what?” Daddy sounded suspiciously happy.

“What?”

“I don’t think you’re eating a salad, funny bunny.”

Hmm, I might’ve been smart but Daddy was definitely psychic.

Chapter 15

Ansel

“Are you sure?” He’d nearly bounced out of his apartment when I’d picked him up for our date, so I still didn’t quite believe theof course I wanted to be biganswer he’d given me. “We can still go get a burger and play.”

As long as dinner was either a steak or a burger, I didn’t care either way, but Charlie started shaking his head even though he was studying the kid’s menu. “No, I’m big. I promise.”

Of course he was.

I knew I was missing something, but I decided to just ignore it for the time being. Charlie was being very Charlie and pushing didn’t seem like it would be helpful. It might just end up making my computer roar too.

“Alright then. What looks good for dinner?” I’d ignore the silliness but I wasn’t going to be ridiculous about it. “Do you want the mac and cheese or the nuggets?”

There was no way he was picking out a steak, and I knew I was right when he answered without even thinking about it. “Can I have both, Daddy?”

Yep, very big, indeed.

“As long as you get veggies instead of fries as the sides, that’s fine with me.” And whatever mental shenanigans he’d talked himself into was fine with me too.

Thankfully, I’d seen our waiter around the club and he’d given me a quick wink as he’d taken our drink orders, so Charlie’s distracted littleness wasn’t going to be an issue.

“Two veggies?” His face scrunched up. “Potatoes are healthy, Daddy.”

I knew just the right way to turn the conversation around. “I’ll accept potatoes are healthy as long as you explain the contents of a bunny salad.”

My response had him sighing. “Can one veggie be the fruit cup, Daddy?”

He’d given in entirely too easily for that salad to have actually been a salad.

What had he been eating?

No one moaned and giggled as they ate an actual salad.

“Yes, sweetie. I think that would be a delicious dinner.” And I was going to owe our waiter a big tip if he could get the kitchen to make it without anyone in the back wondering why an adult was ordering that.

“Thank you, Daddy.” He looked sweet and innocent right up until my phone roared in my pocket.

Barely holding back a giggle, he stared at the menu like he wouldn’t be able to contain his delight if he looked away.

“Phones make the strangest noises lately.” My dry response had his shoulders shaking. “I think mine updated and something went wrong. But it’s okay. I like monsters.”

The biggest issue wasn’t the odd looks I was getting from clients…it was the way the sound reminded me of my naughty boy and made me hard.

Fucking dragons.

“Updates are hard.” He was trying to look innocent but he was doing a terrible job of it as his eyes sparkled with delight. “Phones are naughty sometimes.”

“They are.” I’d told my clients that it was a prank a friend’s kid pulled on me and I had to leave it like that for a while to make him think he’d gotten one over on me.
