“So, what did Frank say?”
“Vulcan’s men ran up in the club last night.”
“I’m sorry you’re going through all this because of me.”
I kiss the tip of her nose, then her lips. “This is the nature of what we do. I just need to figure out what else Jeff is working on with Vulcan. Because it’s not about you. We’ve always had problems with him anyway. And it’s only a matter of time before we come face-to-face.”
We’ve had almost a month alone. I’ve told her more about my business than I’ve ever told another woman. She has a way of taking in information and seeing me for me. We had one tense moment when she realized I am in the mafia. But that won’t change. This is my life and any woman I’m with must know that I’m in it until I’m six feet under.
“I don’t want anyone to get hurt.”
I nudge her until she’s facing me. “In this game, people get hurt. That’s how it works. The only thing is to make sure you’re safe.”
“No, I want you safe too. I won’t be able to cope with the regret if something happens to you.”
“You don’t have to worry about me. I have been doing this for a long time. I always land on my feet.”
Aurora rests her head on my shoulder, and I hold her tighter. The men around me are the only family I’ve had since my folks and sister were murdered. But out here today, I see there’s a possibility for more. The sight of the waves rippling on the horizon and Aurora in my arms gives me a sense of peace.
“What are you thinking about?” The whisper of her breath warms my neck.
“The woman in my arms.”
Aurora leans back, cups my face, and places a soft kiss on my lips. My phone buzzes again.
I kiss her back and lift my phone, and roll my eyes at Frank’s text.The courier just delivered the final contracts for the hotel.
Aurora purses her lips and shakes her head. “We haven’t gotten anywhere, and things are already getting complicated...”
“Time changes all things,” I whisper against her face. “How about we put the next hour to good use?”
A smile crops up on her face as she leans in toward me. I pull her closer and set my lips on hers. My tongue explores the depth of her mouth, and I feel my erection springing up as I rub her body. She moans into my mouth, and the sound of it makes me harder than ever. I let my hand slide down and squeeze her ass. She moans louder and rubs her chest against me.
I lay her onto the deck with me, and our lips are joined together in perfect motion. It’s the most blissful thing ever.
Aurora and I lay on the deck for minutes unending, peering at the beautiful sky. And being with her isn’t about fucking but this connection that’s growing.
When my alarm buzzes at some minutes to ten, I don’t want to go, but I have to let go of her body if I don’t want Frank turning up at my door.
“This is special,” I whisper to her.
“I know. I feel it too.”
We kiss again, and I let my tongue trail to her earlobes, making her squirm against me.
“I’ll make sure nothing happens to us,” I declare. I’m reminding myself as much as I’m telling her. Aurora smiles and nods.
I stand up and lift her off the deck. “It’s time.”
She leans on me, and we walk away from the yacht. After saying goodbye to Captain Morgan, we head back to my car. Aurora puts on some romantic music, and I nod along.
Deep inside me, I can't believe what's happening to me. What I have with Aurora feels unreal, something from a blockbuster movie. I have gone from the stone-hearted guy who toyed with women to the softie who considers love before doing anything.
I look at Aurora again. The woman stealing my heart.
We kiss in the car before she gets out, and I drive back to meet Frank. For the first time in my adult life, my head is filled with love, not matters of portfolio or anything like that. I still can't believe this is happening to me.
With the road stretching out in front of me, I think about plans to beat Vulcan in this game without giving away Aurora’s location.
