Fuck!

The big man on my heels jumps at me, and I fight for my life. We both crash on the ground, and he grabs me by the neck, choking me. I kick him in the balls and scratch at his eyes. He groans aloud and pushes me off him, hitting my head against the wall.

I try to stand up, but his allies yank me up, and I'm slapped across the face. I struggle with them, but they hold me tightly, hauling me out of the house. Two hefty men have Jeff, and we strain to reach one another. But it's furtile.

"Leave my daughter out of this, Vulcan. She has no business with you."

"Sure, she doesn't. Until she attacked one of my men."

Vulcan has pale skin and a bald head. He walks toward me with a smile that irritates me. He stretches his hand to feel my face. I tilt my head in the direction of his hand, then clasp his index finger between my teeth.

"Arrrrh," he screams, then hits me hard on the face. I see stars.

Jeff screams, pleading for Vulcan to let me go. Blood drips from the corner of my lips, and I spit it out.

While he massages his finger, he shoots me a death stare. "Tie her hands and throw her in the trunk. I'll deal withherlater."

"Let my daughter go. She has nothing to do with this," Jeff screams as they sweep me off my feet and shove me into the car trunk.

"Come for her when you have my money."

Darkness veils my vision as they shut the trunk.

"You’ll pay for this, you motherfucker. I swear you'll pay for this." I scream at the top of my lungs but stop when I feel the car moving. "Get me out of here, you coward bastards."

I'm not sure anyone will ever hear me. My heart palpitates when I think about what they'll do to me. I'm fucking screwed. I should never have trusted Jeff. That's the biggest mistake I've ever made in my life. Trusting Jeff with my life when I knew he can’t even take care of himself.

My eyes rake everywhere in the dark, searching for a sharp object to get rid of the duct tape holding my hands bound. I can't even sit up since the trunk is too small. I regretted being Jeff's daughter.

My mother made the smartest move by staying away from him. If I ever get out of this, I'll do the same.

I lose track of time when the car stops abruptly. I groan, straining to find something to defend myself.

I can't help but wonder if they've decided to kill me. But I'm not ready to die. The trunk flips open, and gunshots ring out. A man in a black mask lifts me out of the trunk.

Bullets fly as a group attack Vulcan’s man. Every strand of hair on my body lifts in fear.

I want to run, but my legs and arms are numb from being tied up. The masked man gathers me in his arms. Am I being kidnapped twice? I ponder as the man hauls me into a white BMW.

This is even worse than death.

The stranger sits next to me in the car and speeds off down the road. My stomach tightens, and I feel nauseous. Too scared to look at the kidnapper, I buried my face in my palms, tears rolling out.

"I got you, tesoro." The thick familiar voice resonates in my ears.

I slowly lift my head. My brows knit when I see familiar eyes.

"Tristano?"

TRISTANO

Aurora remainssilent throughout the ride back to my house. At intervals, she shudders and hugs her body tightly. I reach over and take her hand in mine. She glances up, and our gazes linger. I exhale, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. She's probably never heard a gun fired around her.

I remember the first-time bullets rain downed on our home. A terrible night that left me an orphan at twelve years old.

Aurora looks like she's been through hell. Her lips are glued together, and her eyes dart to the side mirror often as though she expects someone to attack us from behind.
