“She’s been here scoring best friend points, don’t be shocked if she usurps your place,” I said, snickering when he groaned. I could picture his eye roll already.

“Oh, I’m not worried, you love me,” he said.

“Get down here fast."

“About that, Hunter and Mark, they’re coming along,” he informed me, his voice quiet.

Hunter. I wasn’t certain how the day would go, and Hunter was one person who was certainly unpredictable, but he was also a friend, so I couldn’t send him away.

“Sure, I’m giving him your part of the meal though,” I said.

“Like I said, you love me, I’m not worried,” he said before hanging up.

“Steve just called, Hunter’s coming,” I told Nat when I made it back in.

“Why? You invited him?” She asked.

“No, but he’s a friend, his opinion would be valuable,” I said, turning away from her.

“Becca.”

“It’s fine, I’m fine.”

“We’ll talk later, your guests are arriving.”

I nodded at the DJ I had hired for the night and soon enough, soft music filled the air. I walked over to the Campbells who had just arrived, smiling as I led them over to the chair by the corner on the right hand of the passage.

“Good evening, Harry and Thelma,” I said to the two of them. “Welcome to The Blue Wheel.”

“Oh honey, it looks good,” Thelma said, smiling up at me. Her eyes ran over the cafe, and I waited while she accessed it, that was exactly why they were here, to give me their honest reviews of the place before it opened to the public.

My heart raced a little more than usual until she looked back at me.

“It looks nothing like the old place, Becca, you really put some work into it. It looks just like you, a blend of modern and rustic,” she said.

“I wouldn’t listen to my wife if I were you, Becca,” Harry said, squeezing his wife’s hand when she playfully glowered up at him.

“Not nice, Harry, not nice at all,” I said to him. “Thank you, Thelma, that’s exactly what we were aiming for, it feels good to know we succeeded.”

“See? I told you,” Thelma said to Harry.

“Enjoy your evening, I’ll be out with the menu soon,” I said to both before smiling and making my way to the door to welcome the next group of guests.

The place was almost full, most of the guests had arrived and were seated with Abby and Delia taking orders and refilling drinks when Steve and Hunter arrived with Mark in tow. Mark ran over to me immediately. I took his hand and led him over to the kitchen, where gave him a big hug.

“Congratulations Becca,” he said, his voice clear and crisp. He handed me a bunch of wildflowers.

“Oh,” I said, taking the flower from him. “Thank you, Mark.”

“Uncle Steve said you own this place,” he said, looking over the kitchen. “It looks cool.”

A ringing endorsement, that was. I took his hands again and led him out of the kitchen and to the table where his dad had settled down.

“Good evening y’all, welcome to the Blue Wheel,” I said, intoning the name.

“What the hell kind of name is that?” Hunter muttered.

“It’s beautiful Becca,” Steve said, throwing a threatening look at his brother.
