Hunter took her hand and looked into her eyes. "Babe, your health is more important than our plans. Let's just go to the hospital and make sure everything's okay. We can always come back here another time."

Becca sighed and nodded. "You're right. Let's go."

I helped her up and grabbed her purse. I walked her out to the car and gently helped her into the passenger seat. I drove quickly to the nearest hospital, all the while reassuring Becca that everything would be alright.

When we arrived at the hospital, I helped Becca inside and they checked in at the front desk. They were quickly taken to a room, and a nurse came in to take Becca's vitals. After a short wait, the doctor came in and examined Becca.

After a few tests, the doctor confirmed that Becca was experiencing morning sickness. I felt my hands tighten around the chair I was sitting on. There was no denying it now. There was another baby in the picture and again, why didn't she tell me?

The doctor gave some advice on how to manage the symptoms and we were soon on our way back to the cabin.

As we drove back, I looked over at Becca with a tight smile. "Looks like we'll have to stay here a little longer."

"Hunter—" she started.

"Save it!" I snapped. I didn't want to listen to anything she had to say. There was only one question I wanted an answer to. What was the plan? Why didn't she tell me?

When we made it back to the cabin, I parked the car and turned to her.

"You knew, didn't you?" I asked.

"Hunter please," she said, her eyes were soft. "I wanted to tell you."

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're at least two months pregnant according to the doctor. You knew, didn't you?"

"I did. I was going to tell you, I promise, I was going to," Becca said. She ran her hands through her hair, her eyes sparkling with tears that just wouldn't drop. I wished they would.

I opened the door and stepped out of the car, slammed the door closed, and walked to the backyard.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Natalie's number, my heart was heavy with guilt and worry.

"Hey, Hunter, what's up?" Natalie answered after a few rings.

"Hey, Nat. Listen, I need to ask you a favor," I said, my voice tense.

"Sure, what is it?" Natalie asked, sensing the seriousness in my tone.

"I... Becca and I are gonna need some more time before we can come get Mark," I said, feeling an angry lump forming in my throat.

"What happened?" Natalie asked, concern lacing her voice.

"Becca's pregnant," I said, the words coming out in a rush.

There was a lengthy silence on the other end of the line that went on for too long.

"She told you,” I said with a chuckle. Of course, she told Nat. That one hurt. That fiery burn in my veins was heating up even more.

"Oh my God, Hunter, that's great news!" Natalie exclaimed finally.

"Yeah, it is. But... it's also complicated," I said, rubbing my forehead.

"I can imagine. So, what do you need me to do?" Natalie asked, her tone business-like.

"I was wondering if you could keep Mark for a few more days. Maybe until we figure things out," I said, feeling like a terrible father. The baby wasn't here, and I was already leaving my little man behind to deal with it. Mark was still young; he hadn't signed up for any of these upheavals.

"Of course, Hunter. Don't worry about Mark. He's my priority too," Natalie said, reassuringly.

"Thanks, Nat. I really appreciate it," I said.
