I laughed. “I'd have to kill you if I told you."

Becca raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Well, I'll have to make sure to keep my guard up, then."

I grinned, "But really, it was just a catering service. They're the real magicians."

Becca nodded, "Well, it's magical all right. Thank you so much, Hunter. This is truly amazing."

“Come sit,” I said, and we dug into the food.

I felt my heart swell with happiness. I had been nervous about this whole thing, but seeing Becca's reaction made it all worth it. "I'm really glad you like it. You deserve the best."

Becca's cheeks turned pink at my words. "You're such a charmer, Hunter. I almost forgot how smooth you can be."

I chuckled, "Almost forgot? Are you saying I've lost my touch?"

Becca smirked. "Maybe just a little. But I guess you're still capable of surprising me."

I grinned. "Well, don't get too used to it. I don't want to spoil you too much."

Becca laughed. "Don't worry, I won't let it go to my head. But seriously, Hunter, thank you so much. This is the best date I've ever been on."

I felt my heart flutter at her words. I had never been good at expressing my feelings, but I knew at that moment that I was falling for Becca. "I'm glad to hear that. And I have to say, you're the best company I've had in a long time."

She smiled. "I have a feeling this won't be our last date."

I nodded. "I hope not Becca, but I am also persistent and when I find something that I want, I go after it wholeheartedly and I want you, Becca. So, this is me wearing my heart on my sleeve. Give me a chance, give us a chance,” I said, taking her hands across the table and brushing my thumb across her fingers.

Her forehead creased as she thought hard. “Do you think it’s right? Is this the right time? You and Mark just arrived.”

“I’m certain,” I replied.

She leaned forward suddenly, a smile in her eyes.

“Yes Hunter, yes,” she said. My heart felt full like it would burst. I pushed my chair back and walked over to her. I pulled her out of the chair and smiled down at her before giving her a long kiss. Right on her pouty lips.

“You won’t regret it,” I whispered softly.

“I better not,” she replied.

The Party

I woke up slowly, the sunlight streaming in through the window. I turned my head slightly to see Hunter still asleep beside me, his steady breathing and the soft rhythm of his heartbeat soothing. I slowly untangle myself from his arms, careful not to wake him up. I smiled to myself, getting grateful for the moment of peace and contentment. As quietly as possible, I slip out of bed, trying not to disturb him.

I tiptoed to the bathroom, closing the door softly behind me. I turned on the faucet and splash some water on my face, feeling the coolness wake me up fully. I stared at myself in the mirror, taking in my messy hair and sleepy eyes. I grabbed a towel and dried my face, feeling refreshed and ready to start the day.

I walked back into the bedroom, grabbed my robe from the chair, and slipped it on. I look at Hunter, still asleep and peaceful. I lean down and kissed him on the forehead before making my way out of the room. I quietly closed the door behind me and walked down the hallway.

As I walk, I can't help but think about how lucky I am to have Hunter in my life. He's kind, and caring, and always puts others first. I know I can count on him to support me, no matter what. And Mark, his son, is a great kid. Smart, funny, and full of energy. I loved being a part of their lives. A part of their tight-knit group.

I made my way to the kitchen, feeling hungry and in need of a cup of coffee. I started the coffeemaker and grabbed a mug, taking a sip of the hot, steaming liquid. I sat at the kitchen table, enjoying the peace and quiet of the morning. It's moments like these that made life worth living.

When my cup was empty, I got off the stool to start breakfast. I checked the fridge and pantry to see what ingredients I had to work with and quickly settled on a classic breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese.

I began by frying the bacon in a skillet, the sound of the sizzling meat filling the quiet kitchen. Next, I cracked open eggs into the pan, the whites slowly solidifying around the yolks.

As the eggs were cooking, I toasted some English muffins and sliced some sharp cheddar cheese. Once everything was ready, I assembled the sandwiches and placed them on a tray, along with a glass of fresh orange juice and a cup of steaming coffee.

Then I made the same plate for Mark, this time without the coffee, covered it up, and placed it on the table where he would find it if he made it downstairs before I could wake him.
