I shook my head. "I’m okay." My arousal ate away at the initial open sensation I felt until all I experienced was the closeness and connection of our bodies.

He held my hips while he moved inside me, a slow and gradual rhythm. I knew he wanted to be gentle with me, treat me like fine, fragile glass. I was already on the verge of breaking from the affection and tenderness he showed me.

I moaned as the ridges surrounding his cock rubbed against my clit and massaged my tender, sex-sensitive labia. All of this was ecstasy. How much more could I take?

I soon learned this primal dance. I rocked against him when he moved forward. My whole body tingled with a soul-moving languorous heat.

"I wanted you for so long." His voice was husky and thick. "You claimed me long before I even knew your name." He grinded against me, firm and slow.

"You have me now."

I couldn’t control the sounds I made. Moans and little gasps of pleasure escaped. He took my hands and placed them over my head. His body glided over mine as his movements sped. I sensed his emotions, the yearning. We mirrored each other’s unspoken feelings.

The time I spent seeing him in my dreams came to this moment. I traveled across galaxies, not knowing I would finally meet him face to face, connect with our minds and bodies.

Pleasure and the fullness of my emotions spiraled in this moment as we both climbed to the peak, rising to a star-splitting climax.

He withdrew and collapsed beside me on the bed. I went into his arms and rested my head near his chest. I listened to his heartbeat between the sounds of our labored breathing.

I must have fallen asleep right after because Varus’s voice sounded distant and dreamy in my head. I opened my eyes and saw him still beside me. He had a sleepy, satisfied look.

"How do you feel?" He stroked my shoulder.

I stretched. "A little sore. Like I ran a race and got tired after I crossed the finish line." We both laughed at my description. "But it feels so good."

For minutes, I rested with my eyes closed while he traced invisible lines across my shoulders and followed the line down to the curve of my hip. My skin responded to his touch with light, effervescent tingles. "I want to do it again."

"Right now?" He propped himself up on his elbow.

His surprised face made me giggle. "Not now."

"I may have to take back what I said about the weakness of humans. Your stamina is unmatched."

I reclined against him, my eyelids getting heavy again. Thoughts warred with the sleep that tried to come for me. "I want you to make love to me again after we win the battle tomorrow. Yes, I said ‘we’." I put my hand on his chest to signal for him to stay put. "I know what you’re about to do. Don’t jump up and act surprised." I settled onto the pillow and laced my fingers behind my head. "Did you think I was going to languish in bed all day and night waiting for you to return after you removed my chastity belt?"

"No." He struggled between sounding serious and revealing the laughter he hid behind his tone. "I’m going to keep you safe."

"Not by locking me in your bedroom, you aren’t. I’m a medic. I need to be near the battle in case someone gets injured."

"You have so much fire left in you."

"Flattery will get you nowhere. Honestly, I want to help. I think it would benefit to have field medics in secure spots in case soldiers can’t heal on their own."

He saw my point of view. "You and Maagda will head to the citadel with Lerun’s platoon. You’ll be part of the second wave after Dremos and I break through the citadel’s defenses."

"See what happens when we work together?"

"Enough planning." In one motion, he rolled over on top of me. "I can think of other things I want to work on."

Iwoke up the nextmorning, well rested and a little sore, but in a good way. Sounds of people talking and shuffling occurred outside the front door. I remembered what today was and sat up in bed.

Varus was already gone. I patted the space where it was still warm from his body. For a person his size, he didn’t slack on stealth. I guess that went into why he was a good soldier.

I tore into the bathroom to hose down and throw on my Wanderstar Fleet uniform. I felt different today, not just because I had sex for the first time the night before. Even though Varus was far from me, I still experienced the connection between us. Maybe as a human I didn’t have the words to describe what a bond was, yet I knew now it existed. It always existed between us, even when I tried to deny it or thought I could scientifically explain it away.

I tugged on my boots while barreling for the door. Once again, I wished Varus would’ve woken me up. Maybe Dremos sold alarm clocks in his store.
