“What? I just thought it was funny.”
He jostled Marilyn a bit, who ended up smiling despite her reprimand, and I giggled.
“Yes, yes, I’ve heard all the jokes.” Dr. Vasille rolled her eyes goodnaturedly before readying the syringe. “Now, give me a moment. Zuzanna, please be mindful not to let him move. I would very much like all my limbs still attached.”
The witch laughed.
I was then distracted by Sariel looping his arms around my waist.
Now what? We play mad scientist until something works?he asked, and I shrugged.
We had to do something. May as well help some people along the way.
We didn’thaveto, actually.
I shook my head, glancing at the twins from the corner of my eye. They’re both watching Tyler with an almost frightening intensity and once Dr. Vasille has her sample, they were more than happy to toss him into the glass cell.
Sariel shuddered at the sight, turning his attention back to me when the vampire placed the tube into a machine at the back of the room.
“Right. Now, let’s get some more. I wish I could get a non-feral’s blood work just to compare everything, but we can put it against the hybrids’ for the time being and see what turns up.”
And that was how the twins and I ended up getting stuck ourselves before we were allowed to leave. Dr. Vasille promised to alert us to anything unusual, then waved us on our way.
“Let’s go for a run,” Kiran suddenly proposed, turning on his heel to walk backward, beaming at Sariel and me. “I promise not to scare your mate too badly.”
Atlan snorted at his antics. “He’s lying. It would bring him nothing but joy to torment your mate.”
“Don’t be dramatic; I’m just curious to see his wolf.”
“Not tonight,” Sariel bluntly interrupted their banter.
Kiran huffed, nearly pouting when Atlan tried to drag him back towards the training grounds. They shifted before they were even close to the trees, and Sariel shuddered at the sight.
It didn’t seem to affect me as strongly as everyone else, so I poked at his side.Theyarea bit gross-looking, but I think you’re all just wimps.
He gave me an incredulous look. We’re not wimps! They’re literally like something from a horror movie!
Our conversation was cut short when a series of howls went up from the trees, and my stomach dropped to the floor.
