The firelight cast soft shadows and bright light against her skin, highlighting her beautiful face, the cascade of her dark hair, the swell of her breasts, the dips and hollows he wanted to explore.

He stared up at her looking down at him, his erection pressed against her wet folds, her hips rocking ever so slightly against him. “Keep doing that.”

She did and planted her hands next to his head and leaned down and kissed him.

He gripped her hips, holding on as she moved over him, making him want to be deep inside her, but holding out while she pleasured herself against him. He felt it in how she positioned herselfto maximize the gratification and heard it in the soft sighs and moans he captured with his lips.

And when she was close, she rose up and took him in deep again and again, the rhythm building as her body caressed his. And then that wonderful tightening happened and his body begged for release, but he held back, wanting her to join him. He reached between them, found the swollen nub with his thumb, rubbed against it as she moved over him, her dark hair brushing her breasts, blue eyes filled with passion locked on him as the climax hit and her eyes closed on a moan of pure pleasure. He followed her into the surge, holding her hips to his. His body spasmed as he filled her. They were locked together in this perfect moment.

She collapsed on top of him, their breaths sawing in and out, his arms banded around her, their hearts beating against each other’s.

They didn’t say anything.

They didn’t need to. Their bodies had said it all.

In the quiet, their hearts connected, the fire crackling and popping and keeping them warm, he held her, knowing nothing got better than this.

Eventually, they both needed the comfort and warmth of the bed. He left her only long enough to remove the tainted bedding and replace the sheets and blankets before he helped her up and followed her under the covers, pulling her close, wrapping her in his arms. He held her until they both fell asleep.

She was still lying in his arms when he woke up to her soft blue eyes on him. “I love waking up to you.”

“Every day I wake up to you is a good day.” He held her, hoping today was a better day for both of them.

He didn’t know what was going to happen when they confronted the events of last night, but he knew no matter what, they’d deal with it together.

He hated the discord. He didn’t like that his relationship with Summer sparked it.

He didn’t want to tear apart the family because he’d finally found someone he wanted to make a life with.

He wanted all of them to be happy for him and Summer. For the most part, they were, but one person could ruin all that for the others. He’d like to convince Natalie that Summer was the only woman for him, but that seemed to be the thing that hurt her the most. And while it was flattering that she had such big feelings for him, it meant that he’d disappoint and hurt her.

He hated that.

He wished he could avoid it all together.

That was why he’d always kept things friendly and uncomplicated and never acknowledged Natalie’s flirting in any way.

“It’s not your fault.”

He should have known Summer would read his mood. “I know. It’s just a complicated mess right now.” He didn’t like complicated or messes because they were hard to fix.

He wasn’t sure this one could be resolved, because Natalie had crossed a line and jeopardized his relationship with Summer. She’d put him in a really bad position. Luckily, he and Summer were strong enough to work it out.

Natalie let her feelings overshadow her good judgment.

He could forgive her impulsive mistake.

In time.

When? He didn’t know.

Chapter Forty-Three

Natalie had avoided the mind-melting lecture last night by locking herself in her room and shouting at her parents to leave her alone, humiliation burning inside her.

Since she’d caused the embarrassing scene, she’d remained in her room, trying to come up with a way to make things right.

Natalie could only imagine what Cody was thinking about her. It made her heart race and her throat clog every time she thought about how he wouldn’t even look at her last night.
