When Carmine made an unexpected visit, I expected him to show up, guns blazing. But he didn’t. He came aboard to discuss what happened last night at the warehouse with Cristian. He assured me that neither he nor his brother knew of the weapons until last night, and by then, I was already upon them.

I believed him, hating that I did. I didn’t want him to be telling the truth, because my plan had always been to eliminate the entire Rosetti line, starting at Emilio and working my way down, sparing only Arianna if it was advantageous for me to do so.

But then the unexpected blessing ceremony occurred, and then Arianna’s injury and Emilio’s treatment of Carmine at the wedding completely changed the game in my head.

And I fucking hated that.

“She’ll either kill me or align herself with me once and for all, forsaking her own blood.”

“Do or die,” He murmured into his glass with a shake of his head. “Which way do you think it will go?”

“Fuck if I know,” I admitted. As close as Arianna and I had managed to get in the last few weeks, her brothers and sisters were her entire life. Her only family essentially, and I didn’t know if she’d turn her back on them for me.

For us.

Matteo’s response was halted as my office door swung open and a frazzled Arianna stood in the opening. “I’ll see myself out,” Matteo nodded to me, “Hide the knives,” He whispered to me setting his glass down on the desk before bowing to Arianna on his way past, shutting the door behind him.

Arianna’s brown eyes glowed with emotion as she stared at me, unmoving from the door. “Were you going to tell me you beat Cristian to a pulp last night?” She asked, but there was no anger behind the question.

“Yes,” I responded instantly because it was the truth.

“You should have told me right away when you got back. First thing,” She swallowed and walked into the office, stopping in front of the desk. “You should have trusted me for once in yourGod damned life.” She closed her eyes and shook her head in sadness. When she opened her eyes to look at me again, tears swam in them. “Why won’t you trust me?”

“I do.” I rose from my chair, but she held her hand up, halting my movement before I could round the desk and get to her. I swallowed down my angry rebuttal to it, trying to allow her feelings to be validated, even if they were wrong. “I do trust you, that’s why I was going to tell you later.” I slowly rounded the desk as she looked at me through her unshed tears, and I hated how it made my chest constrict physically like I couldn’t take a deep breath. “Is it so wrong of me that I wanted to enjoy my time with you, for just a little while, before I brought more darkness between us?”

She dropped my gaze and looked at the floor, letting the tears free to splash against the wooden top of the desk. With each drop of sadness, something inside of me cracked and fractured until I was nearly desperate to make them stop.

“My father plans to kill you,” She whispered. “He’s already met and made a deal with a new man to marry me off to once you’re dead.” My hands fisted at my sides as rage boiled through my system. More tears fell from her inky lashes as her brow creased, but still, she wouldn’t look at me. “Carmine came to warn me so I could decide who I would align myself with.” She took a deep breath and looked up at me, letting the tears trail down her full cheeks. “If I chose you, my siblings would suffer the rage of the Don because of who our father is.” She tilted her head as her shoulders sagged in defeat. “But if I chose them, I was sentencing you to death.”

I couldn’t stay still a moment longer as violent rage vibrated inside of my body. I slid both hands over her cheeks, holding her face and wiping away her tears with my thumbs. She grabbed onto my wrists and pulled herself even closer to me as her small frame shook with anguish. She closed her eyes and whispered, “But I chose you.”

Euphoria raced through my veins as an overwhelming pride consumed me, looking down at my perfect wife.

She was a goddess, the perfect partner to the Don, and far more than I ever expected her to be in such a short time. I had always hoped that we would be able to live amicably someday when I agreed to the marriage. I never imagined I’d gain my better half out of it though.

“I love you,” I responded, surprising both of us but meaning every word. “I can’t explain it to you, Arianna, in words. But this,” I leaned my forehead against hers, “between us, is more than I deserved when I deceived my way into your bed that very first night. I never anticipated that I would be aligning myself with my very own soulmate.”

Her shoulders shook again as more tears fell from her perfect eyes before they fell shut as I kissed her sweet lips. She dug her nails into my neck, anchoring herself to me fully as I growled into her mouth as she opened it for me.

I feasted on everything she offered me, and still, it wasn’t enough. Nothing was ever going to be enough when it came to my little goddess.

“There’s more,” She whispered, breaking apart only far enough to untangle one of my hands from her hair before sliding it down her body. My cock stirred, thinking she was planning on sliding it under the hem of her dress boldly, but she stopped at her abdomen, turning our hands to lay flat against her lower stomach. I pulled back so I could see her face as she looked up at me with her watery eyes and chewed her bottom lip. “I’m carrying your child.”

My ears rang as the blood in my head whooshed violently through my brain, trying to process her words and what they meant. “You’re pregnant?”

She nodded her head, fear evident on her perfect face. “I lied the day I took the test back at Armarow. It was Molly’s urine that Dr. Travis tested,” She rushed out. “I wanted to be able to find out in private, so I could process what it meant for not only us but for me as well. I planned to take the test later that day, but then you sprang the trip on me, and I didn’t get the chance. And then I let fear get the better of me, and avoided finding out for sure, even though my period still never showed up,” She rambled, “But this morning the morning sickness started to hit. And the fatigue has been plaguing me for days.” She shrugged her shoulders in defeat once again. “I couldn’t deny the proof any longer, so I took a test, and it was positive.”

“You’re pregnant,” I repeated like a moron.

“Say something else,” she whispered; her fear evident. “You wanted this so badly before, but things have changed between us.”

I didn’t say anything else, even though I knew she needed me to. Because I was a second away from sobbing like a baby from the rollercoaster of emotions raging through me.

So I used my actions to tell her everything I could without words.

I sank to my knees at her feet, wrapping my hands around her petite hips and laying my forehead against her stomach, breathing her in and composing myself. Her fingers tentatively drifted through my hair as she trembled beneath my touch. “You’re giving me the biggest blessing known to mankind, Little One.” I finally forced out between my parched lips. “There is no greater gift that a woman can give to a man than her love and to create life within herself for him.” I cleared my throat, “With him.”

She nodded her head, sobbing and smiling down at me. “I love you, Nico,” she whispered. “Even if you forced me to in the beginning, I couldn’t stop it from happening. I couldn’t stop fate.”
