“I can be a ghost when I want to be.” He kisses me lightly. “I got done early, so I thought I would give you a ride home.”

“Buried all the bodies?” Stasia asks as she digs into her purse.

“I shoved them into the river since my back has been acting up.” He drops his arm over my shoulder. “Criminals make pretty decent fish food, so I decided to help Mother Nature.”

“An animal lover. How nice.” Stasia gives him a bland smile and then checks her phone. “I better go. I’ve only got two hours to get ready.”

“Be on time,” Fedor calls out. “Luka is always fifteen minutes early.”

“I thought you weren’t listening.”

“I’m not.” He stands and twists from side to side. “You need me, boss?”

“No. Take the rest of the night off.”

“Thanks.” He slides his jacket on and opens the door for Stasia. “See you tomorrow.”

I take Stasia’s hands. “Have fun, and call me in the morning.”

“I will.”

I watch them walk out together and wonder if Fedor might be a better option for my friend.

“They would never last.”

Turning, I study my husband. “Are you sure?”

“No. But Fedor is one of my best men, and I don’t want him distracted.”

“I can’t believe you would stand in the way of true love.”

He slides the stack of papers out of my hand. “Maybe Luka is her true love.”

“How did you know about the date?”

“I know everything the men do.”

“Interesting.” I watch him scan the documents. “How is your Russian?”

“Not good enough to read a fifty-page will.” He slides the papers back into the FedEx envelope and drops it next to my purse. “The syndicate has an attorney that can look this over.”

“Oh good.” I let out a long breath. “I wasn’t sure ifDial A Russian Litigaotorwas still working.”

“And now you won’t have to find out.” He slides his hand along my arm. “What were you and Stasia talking about?”

“I love Turkish dramas and you just so happen to resemble my favorite actor.” I study the strong column of his throat. “I married a sexier version of my celebrity crush.” He pulls me against his chest, and I accept that our marriage is beginning to feel real. “And all it took was my family drama to make it possible.”

“The drama hasn’t started yet.”

“Does that seem strange to you because it does to me?” I kiss him lightly and then step back. “Maybe there’s something in the will keeping the other suitors away.”

“I didn’t expect the oligarch’s kids to make much effort because they’re soft and spoiled. The Bratva boys will be another story.”

“So what do we do in the meantime?”

“Would you like to drive to the beach tonight and grab dinner?”

“Like a date?”
