I hit the button for the elevator and remind myself that no one can get inside the building and my wife will be perfectly safe.

My brother taps his foot as he leans against his car. “Are you ready to go, or do you want to run back into the building and annoy Fedor and Yvgenny with more instructions?”

I flip him off and get in the car. “We have plenty of time.”

He slides into his seat with a look radiating annoyance. “Only because I’m so fucking paranoid and told you to be ready an hour earlier than necessary.”

“I have never been late for anything.”

Vlad turns on the engine of his Alfa Romeo and it sounds suspiciously like a quiet kitten. “How do you know if it’s even running?”

He ignores my jab and pulls out of the parking garage. “This delivery better not go like the last one.”

“Maxsim has sent five extra men and Grigory will monitor the situation from the CCTV cameras. So if the buyer thinks that last-minute negotiations are possible, he will have a hell of a surprise.”

“Good.” I check my phone and see that it’s blank. “Let’s swing by the estate afterward. I want to see if Gianna has any intel on the junior mobsters that flew in yesterday.”

“How long do you think it will take them to figure out the Tarasov heiress is off the market?”

“I have no fucking clue. But I hope it’s quick because the faster I can eliminate them, the happier I will be.”

“Yeah, waiting is always a bitch.”

Nodding in agreement, I look out the window as we speed past buildings and hear my phone ring. “Hope this is good news.” I hit the icon. “Hey, G. Do you have an update?”

“It’s a shame you’ve never found the time to join us forThe Bachelorwatch parties.”

I roll my eyes. “Reality TV rots brain cells, and since I don’t have as many as you, I can’t afford to lose any.”

“I’m going to ignore the insult you hurled at my favorite genre because my husband informed me he won’t force his men to appreciate art and culture like I do.”

“Watching people act like idiots to get more social media followers isn’t art.”

“I’m offended.”

Vlad bites back a laugh because this is a disagreement Gianna and I get into far too often. “Have the Russkis landed?”

“Yes. The two that flew in yesterday checked into the Encore. According to my cousin, Enzo, they have spent their first twenty-four hours gambling, drinking, and blowing their fortunes up their noses.”

“It’s good to hear that the young suitors are focused on the goal.”

“They must be warming up to the task before making a move.”

“Or praying that the other assholes arrive soon and make it unnecessary for them to take action.”

“The only action they seem interested in is having as much fun as possible before they are called back to the Motherland.”

“Thanks for the update, Gianna. I appreciate you keeping on top of this.”

“You’re welcome. I’m invested in the outcome and will do whatever I can to ensure that Lina emerges from this happy and whole.” She clears her throat. “And you too.”

“It’s almost like we’re friends, G.”

“You keep my husband alive, so we’re more than that.” Two loud barks echo through the phone. “I have to go. Herc has decided to become a guard dog and is attacking the sprinklers.”

The call ends, and I tap my phone against my leg, hoping the other suitors are equally uninterested in my wife’s fortune.

“This new look is interesting?”
