“They either accept that you’re married, or I kill them. Either way, you will be safe.”

“You make it sound easy.”

“It’s not complicated,” he says dryly.

I drop down on the chair again and slide my sandwich away. “I need ice cream.”

Sliding my phone over, he nods. “Fill the freezer. It’s going to be a while before things settle down.”

“I need to go to my apartment and go through the rest of my things.”

“I thought the bratoks cleaned the place out.”

“They moved what I asked them to. There are still boxes and clothes to go through.”

“It was my maternal grandmother’s. She and my grandfather passed away a year after I was born.”

“So you do have a piece of your past.”

“I would like some facts, too, so I can make sense of why a father I never knew left me his fortune.”

“Between Grigory and Gianna, we’ll eventually get enough information to paint a full picture.”

“Who is Grigory?”

“He’s the youngest Volkov. Genius hacker, like Gianna. Went to MIT and is singlehandedly modernizing the syndicate.”

“Is that what Gianna does for the Mafia?”

“Yes and no. I am not privy to all the details, but from what I’ve seen, she makes capital double and triple by just looking at it.”

“Then she can invest our millions if we ever get our hands on it.”

“Have you thought about what you would do with a big pile of money?”

“I would buy Stasia her own bakery and—”
