I lock our gazes and wonder if he can see inside my soul.

“Keep looking at me like you are right now, and never stop reaching for my hand. Your touch is a balm in a lifetime of war, and I will never let you go.”

His thick finger slides inside and hits the spot he knows well, making me cry out his name as my release rolls over my body in waves.

“Never doubt me, Lina. I will always take care of business and you.”

I fall into his arms and accept that the monster has finally arrived. Only he’s saving me, not smashing my world to smithereens.

Two hours and three orgasms later, I push a sandwich across the island and watch my Yuri inhale it. “I could’ve made something more substantial, but we don’t have much in the way of groceries.”

He slides a black American Express card out of his wallet. “You can use that until I get one with your name. There is no limit, so get whatever you need. Or want.”

“Oh.” I study the card and frown.

“What’s wrong?”

“It feels weird spending your money.”

“It’s our money now.” He wipes his mouth with a napkin. “That license we signed wasn’t fake.”

“I know.” I grab my plate and sit beside him, wondering what has me out of sorts.

“Lina, the vows we said were real. I will take care of you. In all ways.”

“And what do you get out of this deal?”

“A wife who will stand beside me.”

“And share her resources if she inherits a boatload of money from a man she never knew for reasons she doesn’t understand?”

“If you want to operate under the what’s mine is mine, and what’s yours is ours rule, then I’m cool with it. I’ve got plenty of money.”

“I won’t keep it all to myself. “ I kiss his arm and flutter my lashes. “You can buy as many Mustangs as you want.”

He lifts his glass of iced tea and winks. “I knew marrying you would work out.”

“And not just because you like how I worship your cock with my mouth.”

Spitting his tea across the island, he coughs and looks over. “I did not see that coming.”

I get up and grab paper towels. “Good. Because I plan on keeping you on your toes.” I wipe up the tea and hear his phone vibrate with a message. “I hope that’s news about the boys with grabby hands.” I watch him scan the text. “What?”

“Grigory confirmed that twenty million dollars has been deposited into the escrow account.”

“What does that mean?”

“Two suitors are inbound.”

My hand stills, and I scan Yuri’s features. Nothing. Not an ounce of concern. “All they have is a name, right?”

“Yes.”

“There’s abutthat you’re not telling me.”

“Gianna and Grigory are not the only geniuses in the criminal world, so someone somewhere will put the puzzle pieces together.”

“Then what happens?”
