“And you think that’s a possibility?”

“Yes. As long as you don’t screw it up.”

“Is my wife giving marital advice?”

I study the Vor and wonder if he knows how devious his wife can be. “Something like it.”

“I’m going to see when the cake will be cut.” Gianna kisses her husband and then walks away.

“My wife played you both.”

“How did you know?”

“I pay attention and know she wanted to wave her matchmaking wand over the union.” He studies his wife. “My brilliant minx is a treasure.”

Remaining silent, I decide to focus on the fact I’m married and not what would’ve happened if Lina had chosen someone else.

“I never cared about anyone’s happiness until I met Gianna. And now the need to ensure it sits beside my responsibilities to the brotherhood.” Alexey slaps me on the shoulder. “You are about to learn just how difficult the balancing act is.”

I see Lina waving me over and hope that I never have to choose between the two.

Two hours later, I glance down at my wife and wonder if she’s about to fall asleep. “Should I kick out the stragglers?”

“No.” She leans her head against my shoulder. “I’m enjoying the real-life reality dating show Vlad and Stasia are putting on.”

The two began exchanging barbs after the ceremony ended and haven’t let up. “Should we make a wager on the outcome?”

“Sure. Because I will win.”

“Are you saying Vlad has no chance?”

“Stasia isn’t impressed by men who think every woman is dying to sleep with them.”

“Is that how he comes off?” She peers up at me. “Okay, that was a ridiculous question.”

“I adore Dmitri, by the way. He welcomed me to the family and told me to call him if I needed anything.”

“My brothers will protect you with their last breath if something happens to me.”

“I like the idea of being part of a family. I only have Stasia…and a grandmother if the DNA test comes back as a match.” Her brow wrinkles. “So the more people around the dinner table, the better.”

“You may change your mind about the invitation after meeting the extended family since they are quite loud.”

“I don’t mind loud.”

“That makes one of us.” I watch her run her finger over my ring. “I’m surprised you got me a wedding band.”

“I couldn’t show up empty-handed.” She waves her hand around. “You organized the day and have pledged to protect me. The least I could do was give you a ring.”

“I like what you chose.”

“The black tungsten should stand up to your Bratva duties.” She puts her small hand on top of mine. “Does this feel as weird to you as it does to me?”

“There is nothing strange about marrying a woman you barely know, so the rich and stupid don’t try and kidnap her and grab hold of her billions.”

“You’re right. It must happen at least one week somewhere in the world.”

“Maybe not on this scale, but I’m sure some version of it happens in the forests of Brazil and the dusty streets of Timbuktu.”
