We clean up the dinner table, and Betty puts my leftovers in a container in the fridge.

“Come see my room while the rest of the guys finish cleaning up. They won’t miss us. I promise,”Luca signs with his eyebrows raised and a glint in his eyes.

He leads me to his room, which is literally the door across from the bathroom I was in earlier.

“I know it’s not the prettiest room or the cleanest, but this is where I feel the most at home,”Luca signs shamefully.

I look around and his room is perfect. It suits him. He has a twin sized bed with a grey and black comforter. On his desk, he has some pictures of him and his brothers, a few of which match some of the ones out in the hall. I see he has thrown a lot of clothes onto the floor of his closet.

I giggle. I actually giggle.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to giggle. I just think it’s funny that you threw all your laundry on the closet floor,”I sign with a smile on my face.

“Shit, I forgot to close the door. I knew I would forget something. Also, don’t apologize for giggling. I’m sure it’s an amazing noise that I would love to have heard,” Luca signs.

“Don’t worry about it. We all have some things we hide in a closet,”I sign.

After saying that, I realize the irony is not lost on me that I’m hiding a big secret from them.

I still need to talk to Atlas.

Luca pulls me to sit down on his bed with him. I’m a little nervous to be sitting on his bed, but I’m going to trust my gut that Luca isn’t going to hurt me. That he wants to protect me.

“I used to be bullied a lot when I was young because I was deaf. It got easier over time because teachers were made aware and I was finally put into Betty’s care, and she made sure to get me the right help in my classes and made sure the schools did what they were supposed to.

“There was this one school, though, where I was bullied so hard that one day I came out of school and had the wind knocked out of me. They beat me up until I blacked out. If Mateo and Kade hadn’t come to save me, I don’t know where I would be right now, honestly,” Luca signs shamefully, his head down the whole time.

I look him in the eyes, and I can see so many emotions swirling around in them that I can’t name. I just want to take them away from him. He deserves to be happy.

“Paisley? You look beautiful every day, but when you wear my clothes, it just does something to me. I want to kiss you. Can I?”Luca signs with questioning eyes.

My eyes go wide, not expecting his question, and I feel my cheeks warm. With my heart pumping at what seems like thousand beats per minute, I nod.

“You say no or stop and we stop, okay, Paisley? If you feel uncomfortable in any way, you tell me. Promise?”he signs, staring straight in my eyes.

“Promise,” I sign as I raise my pinky up to pinky promise.

Luca looks at my pinky, figures out what I’m trying to say, and connects his pinky with mine.

He scooches a little closer on the bed and turns to me a little bit. He rests one of his hands on my upper thigh, and I’m a bit nervous, but I keep telling myself Luca isn’t likehim. He said he would stop if I said stop. I believe him. Besides, I want to kiss Luca.

He slowly moves his face closer to mine until his lips meet mine. The kiss is slow at first like it was with Mateo. It’s like he is exploring my mouth and trying to commit every part of my lips to memory.

Speeding up the kiss, Luca eventually slides his tongue onto my bottom lip, and I sigh. Taking that as his chance, he moves his tongue into my mouth. Never having done this before, I try to do what he is doing, but sure I’m a fool.

He is still kissing you, so you must not be that bad, Paisley.

Slowly, Luca pushes me down onto the bed, and I’m getting a little anxious. I feel trapped like before. I break the kiss, taking a few breaths and trying to calm down. Reminding myself that I’m here with Luca and not in the past in my memories.

“You okay?”Luca signs questioningly.

I nod my head after a few seconds and pull his head back to mine, hoping he wants to kiss me again. The kiss is intense this time, overwhelming all my senses. I feel him pulling my shirt up, and I go to stop him, as I don’t want to go any further. But before I can stop him, he just rests his hand on my side. He starts rubbing small circles with his hand, and I sigh again.

“Paisley, where are you?” someone yells, but I’m unsure who since it sounds so far away.

Breaking the kiss, sitting up, and pulling my shirt down, I let Luca know that they are looking for me and that we should probably go back and start working on the assignment.

“Hey, thank you. You don’t know how much that meant to me,”I sign.
