“No movement inside,” Bram said.

“The drone is in position,” Hex said.

Bram heard the faintest whirr as the drone passed overhead.

“Two heat signatures in the center of the living room,” she said. “They’re not moving.”

That had to be Addie’s parents. “Where’s Kozlov?” Bram muttered.

“No sign of a third person,” Hex said. “He has the skills to evade heat detection.”

Bram still didn’t like it.

“Bram and Shade, go through the front,” Killian said. “Devyn and I are coming through the back. Wolf and Hades, watch the outside.”

Bram moved forward, rifle in his hands. He’d keep his promise to Addie.

He reached the porch.

“Stop,” Shade hissed.

Bram stilled.

The other man crouched, and pointed a finger at a wire crossing the steps. It was hard to see.

Shade followed it under the porch and his face hardened. “It’s hooked to a grenade.”

Fuck. He touched his ear. “Killian, Devyn. Watch out for booby-traps. The front step is wired.” He carefully stepped over the wire, toward the door.

“Acknowledged,” Killian replied. “Be careful. Hex, the instant this asshole pops up, tell us.”

“On it, boss man.”

Bram tried the front door handle, and it turned. He pulled back and checked for any tripwires. “Clear.”

He nodded at Shade, and pointed, then he slid inside. Shade followed him.

An older couple were tied to chairs positioned in the center of the worn carpet. Their mouths were covered with duct tape. When they saw him, their eyes widened. He scanned the room, and checked behind the couches. Shade moved swiftly into the small kitchen.

“Clear,” Shade called.

“We’re coming in,” Devyn said. “The back door was rigged with a booby trap as well.” A second later, Devyn and Killian came through the kitchen, then moved to check the bedrooms.

The house wasn’t big, and Bram imagined it had been a tight fit with five children.

“House is clear,” Killian said. “Hex, any sign of Kozlov?”

“Negative, Killian.”

Fucking fuck. Bram bit back his frustration. He moved to the Harrises.

Shirley Harris had faded blonde hair threaded with gray. She had it pulled back in a bun. Her face was lined, but he could see the good bone structure. Addie looked a lot like her mom. Harold Harris had a barrel-shaped body, and the florid look of someone who drank too much. His gray hair was thinning, there were fresh bruises on his jaw, and one eye was swollen closed. He’d taken a beating.

As gently as he could, Bram pulled the tape off Addie’s mother. Shade did the same for her father. The man grunted and looked dazed.

Addie’s mother gasped. “Oh my gosh.”

“Are you all right?” Bram asked, as he started untying the ropes binding her to the chair.
