“Fuck. I see it. IED.” Killian carefully shifted back, then rose smoothly to his feet. “Hang tight, Bram. Santi is on the way.”

“Who’s Santi?” Addie asked.

“Our bomb disposal guy,” Hex told her. “Ex-Army. He’s the best. Nick’s gone to get him.”

Time ticked by slowly. It was agonizing watching Bram standing there, knowing he was on a bomb.

“Hadley is going to be pissed she isn’t here,” Hex said.

“Hadley?”

“The other member of our team. Hadley Lockwood, although she’ll be Hadley Knightley before too long. She’s engaged to Bennett Knightley.”

Addie tried to focus. “The British billionaire?”

“Yes. He’s totally gorgeous. Hadley’s British too, and they are perfect together.” Hex sighed. “Anyway, she’s out of town on a job for a few days.”

The handsome man strolled over to her and Hex. If Addie wasn’t so panicked, she’d probably get tongue-tied at how handsome he was. His dark hair had a hint of a curl, and his smile was very white against his bronze skin.

“He’ll be fine. Santi will have the bomb defused in the blink of an eye.” He reached out and squeezed Addie’s hand. “I’m Matteo. I work with Bram. Why don’t you come with us,cara? We’ll find you a seat.”

“I’m not leaving him.”

“He wants you safe.”

She looked at Matteo’s gorgeous face. “I’mnotleaving.”

“All right.” She thought she saw a glint of admiration in his dark eyes. “You remind me of my Gabbi. She’s soft and sweet on the outside, but pure steel on the inside. I’ll bring you a chair. Maybe a little farther back, just to calmmio amico.”

Addie nodded.

She’d just sat down when a short man shouldered into the warehouse with Nick.

The man looked to be in his mid-fifties, with salt-and-pepper, curly hair, and was missing one eye. He had terrible, old burn scars down one side of his face. He carried a heavy-duty toolbox in one hand.

“That’s Santi. Santi Guzman,” Hex said. “A bomb got him, but only because he was ambushed. This man knows bombs inside and out.”

“Santi.” Killian shook the man’s hand. “Bram’s on an IED with a pressure sensor. It was part of the security system, but someone tampered with it, and attached it to an explosive.”

Santi nodded and opened his toolbox. “Let’s take a look.”

Addie bit her lip and watched, her nerves strung tight.

The bomb expert got down on his stomach, reaching under the platform.

She twisted her hands together over her belly. Over their baby.

Hex rubbed her back. “Deep breaths. Santi is the best.”

The bomb man grunted. “Don’t move, amigo.”

“I’m not moving,” Bram growled.

Santi muttered a few times. “Simple design, nothing fancy.”

“Get it defused, Santi,” Killian said.

“You’ll owe me, Hawke.”
