Charger.

Shop.

Office.

Bingo.

I freed the last key—small, thin, and cylinder shaped—from the ring before slipping it into my own pocket and returning his keys to his pants.

There were two things I knew for certain…

One, Rowdy was hiding something.

And two, he had me completely fucked up if he thought he could keep it from me.

“Owen, I’m leaving now,” Atlas announced as she walked into the living room, her new heels I’d spent nine-hundred damn dollars on clicking against the wooden floor and interrupting my game.

Between my girl, the shop, ruling Idlewild’s underworld, my side business customizing cars, and now the car wash, I didn’t have a lot of free time just to sit back and kick it. I was excited as fuck when Atlas asked me if she could go to a party with her little friends she’d met on campus.

I made sure to get the hoe and the hood fax on every one of those thots before I gave Atlas the green light to hang with them, though. Even after she’d been burned in the worst way, my girl was still too damn trusting.

That was where I came in.

Atlas called me controlling, but I tuned her ass out and did what I did best. I looked out for her.

“Okay. Bye, baby,” I said without taking my eyes off the TV. This was my third time trying to beat this damn level.

“I should be home by one.”

“Cool.”

“You going to miss me?”

“Yup.”

“Are you giving me short answers so that I’ll leave faster?”

“You so pretty, baby.”

Atlas giggled and mushed my head as she left the room. Me being me, game be damned, I glanced over my shoulder to get a good look at that fat ass as she walked away.

What the—

I paused the game when I saw what the hell she was wearing.

“You got me fucked up!”

Realizing she’d been caught, Atlas darted for the door.

I threw the Xbox controller down and hopped over the couch to give chase. By the time I reached the door, she was already in the car and gunning it down the driveway.

Atlas was supposed to have left an hour ago, and now I knew why. Her ass had been stalling until I was into my game so she could sneak by me.

Whipping out my nine, I aimed for her front tire, making Atlas scream when I pulled the trigger twice. I was so mad I missed both times, which only pissed me off even more—that and the two bullet holes in my pavement.

“Fuck!” I roared. All I could see was Atlas’s taillights as she raced down the street. “The fuck you looking at?”

I’d caught my neighbor staring at me, and once he noticed the gun in my hand, he hurried his old ass back inside.
