It was five right now.

Jasmine always felt a bit of nerves when she was getting ready to take down a rogue, but then once she had a plan, she was good for it.

“What do you want us to do?” Levka asked.

“Rescue our councilmember,” Scotty said. “We have word he’s in a special place that none of us would think to look for him. In the meantime, we’ll go after their council members. We hope to incarcerate them, not kill them, and try to persuade them that things need to change. But they’ve been in charge since the beginning of the Black Death, and you know how it is. Once they were in, no matter how many years it has been, they’re not stepping down. They’re so set in their ways from so many generations before that they won’t even consider making any changes. I’ll have Eleanor, the one who learned of William’s incarceration and where he’s located, drive you to the place. It will be up to you to get him out before they kill him.”

“After that?” Levka asked.

“It won’t be an easy task,” Scotty said, sounding like he thought they wouldn’t have time for anything else. “But if you do manage to get William to safety, contact me and if we’re still trying to take down the elders, you can help with that. Others will be managing the smaller fish who will back the elders until we can remove them from office.”

“All right.” Levka looked at the rest of his party.

They all inclined their heads to him, indicating they were fine with this. Jasmine wanted to go after the big fish first, but she figured Scotty thought the unknown team of vampires might be able to infiltrate the place where they were holding William better. She thought a lot of Scotty for wanting to protect one of their own and not dismiss him as an incidental statistic to the battle ahead.

Stasio was so glad Jasmine was staying with them. He worried that if she returned to New York, the word might not have reached the league that she was not a rogue and that would be the end of her. Even though being here with them could very well be the death of her when they tried to free William.

Eleanor motioned to an SUV. “Climb in and let’s go.”

“You don’t think they would have moved William to another location, thinking that if this is a coup, others will know where he is?” Levka asked.

“Possibly. But we do have sources and have verified through four different ones who all say the same thing that he is in this one location, which is why we need to move quickly so we can free him before they think to move him,” Eleanor said.

All of them were armed and ready to go after William as they climbed into the SUV. Stasio, Jasmine, and Gareth were sitting in the way back seat. Eleanor was driving.

Levka was sitting in the front passenger seat. Caitlin, Arman, and Ruric were in the middle bench seat. Stasio frowned at Gareth as they took off. “You could have sat in the middle seat with Caitlin and Ruric.”

“I’m in the back helping to serve as a lookout,” Gareth said.

Even though Stasio’s cousin could sometimes be a royal pain in the butt, he usually had good reasons for what he was doing. That’s when Stasio saw a small rectangular mirror in his hand, his arm resting on the windowsill while he watched the mirror to look behind him.

Eleanor was watching the traffic ahead of her, so Stasio understood why Gareth would want to assist in making sure no one was following them. But then Stasio wondered if Gareth had another reason. He asked his cousin telepathically,“Do you not trust Eleanor to watch for any trouble coming our way?”

“Aye, cousin. We don’t know her like we know each other. Well, except for your new girlfriend. I haven’t decided on her quite yet either.”

Stasio hated to admit that he wasn’t a hundred percent sure about Jasmine in the event they had to fight, and she thought it was better to flee. Why should she stick her neck out for any of them?

“Anything specifically that makes you wary of her?”Stasio asked, meaning Eleanor. He knew why his cousin wasn’t sure about Jasmine. She was an assassin and had wanted to eliminate Gareth.

Gareth continued to monitor the mirror. “You have to ask?”

“I mean about Eleanor, wiseass.”

“Oh, well, think of it this way, we failed in our attempt to overthrow our elders in Wales, so why would she even feel we’re capable to fight a bunch of guards to rescue William?”

“So nothing more specific than that comes to mind?”

“No. It’s just a vague feeling.”

“Well, I agree with you there.”

“We’re not going to park at the location where William’s being held hostage, are we?” Arman asked Eleanor.

“No. In fact we’re going to stop here. It’s about a mile northwest of here.” Eleanor parked the vehicle at a house.

“Won’t the homeowner be suspicious that a strange vehicle is parked at their house?” Ruric asked.
