“Buck will…take care of you,” I try to say, pointing to my colleague who is now at the other end of the room, in the middle of a flirting session with a beautiful woman. “Well, what can I get you?”

“Actually, I didn’t come to drink.”

No kidding? See, I was right, this asshole is following me. Upon noticing my irritated look, Tucker points to a couple of guys by the pool table behind him, “Relax, redhead, I’m with friends.”

“Go back to your buddies, then.”

A small smile appears on his face. He passes his hand over his unshaven cheek and continues with a teasing voice, “But I’m fine here.”

A chick a little further away stares at him without discretion. I’m sure he’s noticed her, but he doesn’t seem to mind.

“You seem to have a new fan,” I laugh.

He shrugs.

“A lot of people think they like me. Others hate me. And you want to know the good news, Iris? I don’t give a shit.”

I resume, “Well…I have to work.”

He seems to like the stern tone of my voice even more, as if he was delighted to piss me off.

“Then accept it,” he suddenly and firmly orders me.

I frown, puzzled, “Accept what, exactly?”

“Come to my place tomorrow night,” he says.

I hold back a little laugh. “Seriously, does this usually work? You put on your tough guy face, and the girls come running like little bitches in heat?”

He nods, clearly admitting it to me.

“I won’t come to your place. Besides, aren’t you having your little party tomorrow or something?”

“Exactly,” he replies. “This is all happening on my property.”

I raise an eyebrow. His property?

Tucker leans in, his different colored eyes staring at me as if trying to undress me. “I want you to come over.”

I’m not going to say I’m not curious, because that would be lying. But the truth is, I can’t. I can’t get into their games and see what they have planned. And anyway, I have things to do: homework, laundry…yeah, my weekend is going to be exciting…

“And what exactly is going to happen?”

Even if I don’t go, it doesn’t hurt to find out, right?

“You’ll only find out if you come.”

“On the posters, you say you want to recruit new wolves. So, what, you’re going to hold trials to get your Pack to grow?” I suggest, not really believing it.

Tucker doesn’t answer me, telling me I’m on the right track. I can’t believe it. What the hell is this shit? So that’s it, they’re doing some kind of job interview?

I decide to hammer the point home and get him to respond, “Some girls said something about a manhunt.”

He squints his eyes. His jaw becomes a little more square while his broad shoulders tighten. “Oh, really?”

“They talked about something else too,” I whisper, approaching. “A girl who ended up in the morgue, any word on that?”

He steps back as if I’ve just hit him.
