She opens her mouth wide, looking discomfited.

“But…what?”

“Brenda,” I start seriously.

“My name is Briana!” she replies with a pinched mouth. “Come on, stop taking this so serious, I just want to have some fun.”

She tries once again to touch my thigh, but I catch her wrist and tighten it strongly.

“You’re hard,” she murmurs to me with lust. “I can see it.”

I throw a glance at the erection which stretches my jeans. “It’s not for you,” I spit.

I let go of her as if her touch burns me. What the hell am I doing? I should let her do it, let her take me to her place. But I can’t.

“Get out,” I order her a little more firmly.

After a few seconds, she opens the door, furious. “Loser!”

I mentally count to ten to calm myself, in vain. My fist slams down hard on the steering wheel.

Iris, get out of my head!

I take a seat in the center of the lecture room as it starts to fill up little by little.

I pull my computer out of my bag and let out a curse as my laptop falls on the floor in the process. There are days like this when you know nothing is going to go right. Well today, this is one of them.

I bend down to pick it up, and when I look up, I see that Tucker is coming down the stairs. He hasn’t seen me yet. I place my bag on the seat beside me. I hope this will discourage anyone from sitting here.

Of course, I’m not targeting anyone.

Actually, I am.

Since Saturday night, bad thoughts have been running around in my head. The fact that I saw him leave with his blond girlfriend haunts me. I stopped looking for the reason for my annoyance. I didn’t like it, and that’s it.

I know, he does what he wants and blah blah blah. But I kept imagining the two of them fucking. It’s stupid, but that’s how it is. My brain is tormented and apparently doesn’t want to move on.

Maybe I should do what he did to make everything better? Find another guy and get laid quick? Except that’s not like me at all. I let myself go with Tucker, forgetting all my rules, but it’s not likely to happen again with another guy.

I keep my gaze pointed in front of me, towards the dais, so that I watch him take his seat right in front of me, without a word. I squint my eyes as I stare at the back of his head. So, what, now this is it? We ignore each other while staying close to each other? Can’t he sit in one of his damn special seats?!

Let’s not forget that we have a case to do, and for that we have to go to the trial in Brighton on Friday. So we’re going to have to cooperate despite our shitty tempers.

The class has barely ended when Tucker is already running down the stairs. I take it on the chin and step in behind him.

“Tucker!” I shout as he walks through the door.

He doesn’t seem too thrilled that I’m calling him. I have the answer to my question: now that we’ve actually slept together, he just doesn’t give a shit.

I thought everyone was buddies in his stupid pack?

I breathe in to calm myself and walk over to him, a mask of indifference stuck on my face. “We need to talk about Friday.” I say.
