I was too aware of what I stood to lose, and I made every effort to do what was necessary to hold on to her. If anything, I found myself wanting to take more and more days off from work in order to spend my time with Kiera.

Of course, I didn’t do that nearly as often as I would have liked to, but I had made some executive decisions when it came to my work. I was content with where things were and my current list of clients. Fortunately, I made enough money on those clients to be able to support our lifestyle, and the family we hoped to have one day. Kiera’s income was all a bonus. So, I was no longer actively seeking new clients to add to the mix, which really helped to free up a lot of time for me, also making it so I didn’t need to hire a new secretary.

Long before we got to the holiday season, I knew that what I was doing now was precisely how I intended to spend my time off.

I didn’t know exactly what Kiera would want to do each day, but there wasn’t a question in my mind that I’d be spending my time with her. We visited with friends and family, but we also made time for one another.

That was why we were standing here in the kitchen right now, working on the last batch of sugar cookies.

We’d already made a bunch of other flavors, but Kiera didn’t want Christmas to pass without being able to have cookies she could roll out, cut out into special Christmas shapes, and then decorate.

“Yeah, I’m not sure we have any more cooling racks left, so we’ll probably need to get these in the oven and work on the trays,” I agreed.

“I just have this little bit of dough left, but it’s not enough to roll out so I can make a good cookie,” she mumbled.

“I have some left,” I told her.

Kiera rounded the island. “I don’t want to take any of yours, but—”

She gasped.

I started laughing.

“What did you do?” she asked, barely able to contain the laughter threatening to burst out of her.

I shrugged. “I might have gone a little off course.”

Kiera shook her head in mock disappointment. “I’m going to tell everyone those are ball ornaments that fell over.”

“But they’re not,” I told her. “They’re boobs.”

“I cannot believe you.”

I shot her a questioning look. “But you should have expected this. It’s only a couple of them.”

She cocked an eyebrow. “Is that what you need? A couple sets of them?”

Immediately, I shook my head. “Me, personally? I only need yours, but I was thinking of them when I made these,” I stated proudly.

Kiera held out her hand. “I want the rest of your dough.”

I happily passed it to her. “There’s not enough there for another set anyway.”

After she rolled out the remaining dough and cut it into appropriate Christmas cookie shapes using actual cutouts, she placed the final cookies onto her baking sheet. “Now we just need to get them in the oven for twelve minutes.”

I had closed the distance between us and walked up behind her. Placing my hands on her hips, I gently turned her in my arms.

“What’s going on?” she asked.

Tipping my chin up and to the side, I answered, “Correct me if I’m wrong, but I do hear Christmas music playing.”

“Yes.”

“Did you forget about the new rule?” I asked,

Kiera’s face lit up as she lifted her arms up and rested them on my shoulders. “No, I did not.”

I touched my mouth to hers, giving her a kiss, before I pulled back and said, “Whenever music is playing in this house, we dance.”
