Page 40 of Crave the Love

Months of not touching her beyond that simple brush of my hand against hers when I took the suitcase from her yesterday morning.

Seeing her now wearing just a few small scraps of fabric, I didn’t know how I was going to do it.

I didn’t have the slightest clue how I was going to manage having to see her like this all day long, knowing I couldn’t touch her. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to strip her out of that bikini later today when we got back to our room.

Fuck, I missed making love to her.

I missed kissing her. Holding her. Touching her.

I missed my wife.

I was reluctantly pulled from my thoughts when Thea asked, “Okay, so how are we doing this?”

“Guys against girls,” Gage declared.

“Yeah, I think that’s the best bet,” Zac agreed.

“That works for us. We’ve got the real volleyball players on our team,” Talia announced.

“Damn, I forgot about that,” Gage clipped.

Saylor speared him with her eyes, cocked a brow, and said, “It’s understandable that you might not remember that Margot played volleyball in high school, but how could you forget that your wife is a state champion?”

Uh oh.

Gage was in trouble, but he quickly made up for it by walking over, slipping his arm around Saylor, and whispering something into her ear. Whatever he said seemed to make her forget she had reason to be upset with him.

My eyes slid to Kiera, and I saw the longing wash over her face as she watched the interaction between our friends.

Yep.

This wasn’t easy on her at all.

If it hadn’t been for the fact that Colt spoke, I might have lost the battle waging in my mind and gone toward her to comfort her.

“Are we ready?” Colt asked.

Apparently, we were jumping right into the volleyball match. Maybe that was precisely what I needed. A simple distraction of a game to take my mind off of what had been plaguing it for hours now.

The guys and I made our way to one side of the net, immediately ready to start, and the girls huddled themselves up. It became clear rather quickly that they were coming up with a strategy, while the guys and I were planning to just wing it.

As the women came out of the huddle, I couldn’t help but notice that Talia, Margot, Thea, and Saylor were giddy, obviously excited about whatever their game plan was. Kiera had a smile on her face that nobody would recognize as being forced other than me.

I got a clue as to why that was a moment later when Simon groaned, “Oh, this is not playing fair.”

“What’s the matter, baby?” Margot asked, clearly teasing him. “Afraid you won’t be able to concentrate with me standing right in front of you?”

“Oh, hold on one second,” Talia declared. “I forgot to put on my sunscreen.”

Talia ran over to her beach bag, pulled out her sunscreen, and squirted it into the palm of her hand. She made her way back to the volleyball area slowly, but she did it with her eyes on Zac.

Zac was completely mesmerized by her, and Talia knew exactly what she was doing when she began massaging the sunscreen into her cleavage.

“There’s got to be rules against this,” he groaned.

“I think they’re scared,” Thea announced as she pulled her hair up and away from her face with her gaze pinned on Colt.

I didn’t pretend to know what her doing that meant for him, but it was clear there was some significance, because he couldn’t look away from her.
