“Long.”

“Long?”

He dipped his chin. “I haven’t seen you since I left here this morning. I don’t like the days that you don’t come in for any sort of training. I have to go hours at a time without seeing you.”

I hadn’t stopped taking self-defense or weapons training classes. I fully intended to continue with them, because I fully believed they were good skills to possess. But since there was no longer an active threat against my life, I decided I could scale back just a touch, focus on my work, and just relax for a bit.

I cocked an eyebrow at Kane. “Maybe we should go inside the Steel Hideaway and make up for all those lost hours.”

He smiled against my lips. “That sounds like a fantastic plan.”

At that, Kane was done standing outside. He dropped his hand to my waist, turned my body, and urged me toward the house.

Then, we went inside, where I made him forget that he was ever upset about not being around me today.

EPILOGUE

Kane

One year later

“Do you know how happy you’ve made me?”

That question came from Ellery, and while I couldn’t say that there was any other scenario where she could have asked it when I wouldn’t have known the answer, there wasn’t any doubt in my mind about it now.

It was clear to me just how happy Ellery was. With her gorgeous, naked body settled between my thighs, her fingers curled around my cock, and her mouth just inches away from the tip, there was no confusion in my mind.

Ellery was happy.

I knew that.

The thing was, I was well aware of it long before today. If I hadn’t been, the fact that she’d had her mouth on me just moments ago would have given me a pretty good indication of where her mindset was.

But it seemed that no matter that I already knew how she’d been feeling, Ellery decided she wanted to have a conversation about it.

I didn’t mind.

Or, I wouldn’t have minded in any other case.

I wasn’t exactly sure why she chose this moment to discuss it.

If I’d had my way, she could have brought it up after we finished.

My back against the headboard, my fingers threaded through her hair, I insisted, “I do know.”

She stroked my cock, doing it absentmindedly and slowly as she returned, “I never thought it was possible to be this happy, Kane. You’ve changed my whole life.”

Smiling, feeling good about the words she was sharing and even better about what her hand was doing, I replied, “I wish you had found me first, because you never would have known a day of sadness.”

Ellery began to focus her efforts on the head, her hand gripping me firmly as her thumb swirled around the head.

“So much has changed over the last year. Who I am, what I do, and where I’m heading. I have you to thank for that, because none of it would have been possible without you,” she shared.

One look at all that had happened over the last year, and there was little doubt of how much Ellery’s life had changed. It didn’t all happen at once, and things were still changing.

In fact, it was just two days ago that Ellery’s divorced was finalized. From the moment I met her up until that point, I’d noticed a drastic change in her. But two days ago, it changed again. I hadn’t realized until that moment just how much of a weight that was on her shoulders. But the burden had been lifted, and her spirits soared more than they already had been.

It was beautiful to see.
