Page 56 of Possessing Eden

“I have never felt this for another,” he insists. “In fact, I didn’t think I was capable. I expected to go my entire life without ever feeling it…”

He laughs a self-deprecating laugh, and I have no clue what the fuck he finds funny. “Now I understand what Lucifer and the others went through… It’s fucking maddening.”

When I just stare at him in incomprehension, his expression instantly becomes deadly serious.

The switch between emotions happens so quick, so unnaturally, I squirm a little on his lap.

Voice dropping to a husky whisper, he admits, “You’re making me feel something I’ve never felt before, Eden.”

He takes a deep breath and shudders against me. “You’re making me feel…need.”

My core clenches involuntarily and I jerk away.

Needing space between us.

Needing a full breath of air and a break from this insanity.

Only to have him pull me right back.

Even closer than before.

We’re so close now, I can feel the shadow from his lips caressing my lips as he says more softly, “I know you don’t understand. That it’s all a little frightening. Fuck, I hardly understand it myself. But I need you, Eden.”

Fingers tightening in my hair, I get the impression he’s about to kiss me. “I need to make you mine.”

Before his lips can touch me, I shove at his chest and blurt out, “I’m already married, you creep!”

A look of annoyance sharpens the determination in his eyes.

“Not for long,” he says ominously.

“What the fuck does that mean?!”

I never thought I’d ever fear for Kyle, especially after everything he’s done to me, but there it is…

I’m actually afraid for his life.

Jude growls, “It means—”

“I—I’m sorry to interrupt…” Amber suddenly stammers beside me.

If looks could kill…

Jude gives poor Amber a look that has even me withering.

“What the fuck did I say about bothering me?” he snaps.

All the color drains from Amber’s face and she looks like she’s about to burst into tears. “I’m s—sorry. B-but Eden has a phone call at the bar…”

I’ve never seen Amber nervous before and find it more than a little unsettling. She’s one of the most popular dancers in the club, second only to Lana, and usually has most of the men eating out of her hand.

Jude snarls. “And?”

Slowly stumbling back, Amber bumps into the table. “It’s i—important. It’s her b—babysitter…”

“Abel,” I say the second I think his name.

Sonya wouldn’t call if it wasn’t serious.
