Bending over, I pull my slacks up my legs then tuck myself into my pants.

Quietly, I say, “She’s mine. She’s already carrying my child.”

James backs up to the wall and leans against it, mumbling loudly, “Somehow, I just know I’m going to be blamed for this.”

I can hear the shower start in the bathroom, and at least know my wife is doing as I said. Right now, we’re going to have enough problems with the family. I don’t need her ignoring what’s best for us in the long run.

Johnathan laughs loudly over the shower, looking from me to James. “Least it’s not me this time.”

“Nah, you’re the golden boy now that you and Simon are BFF’s,” James grunts out.

Shrugging, Johnathan says, “Sometimes it’s good to know people in high places.”

A loud shrilling ring comes from James’s suit, and I can just feel the menace of that ringtone from where I stand.

Pulling the phone from his pocket, James smirks at me before he pushes accept and hits the speakerphone button.

“We’re here with Jude,” James says and tosses the phone onto the kitchen island counter.

“Finally,” Simon snaps. “Can someone tell me what exactly the fuck is going on?”

“Whoever my wife was working for sent hitmen to kill me,” I say. “They weren’t much to deal with. I suspect they either thought I was an easy target when I was alone or it was a diversion… I don’t know.”

Lucifer comes into the conference call. “You mean the woman from club?”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Simon says. “Can we stop collecting headaches? It seems like every single damn season we find a new flavor of the month that is bound to cause us strife.”

There’s a long silence as everyone tries to process exactly what Simon just said.

“I blame James,” I say with a smile to Johnathan.

“I concur,” Johnathan says.

“Fuck you both,” James’s says, throwing his hands up in the air.

There’s a laugh from Lucifer over the line before he quickly says, “Come to the office, we need to talk.”

“We’re leaving here shortly,” I say as I look around for any clothes of mine. There’s nothing, though. “After we get cleaned up at home, we’ll come into the office.”

“No,” Lucifer says, and I can hear there’s no arguing with him. “You’ll all come in now.”

The phone goes silent.

They’ve hung up, meaning there will be no arguments.

My gun is back on my hip. I can draw on one of them now. I’ll need to hope the other sides with me.

James or Johnathan.

The Ferryman or Vengeance.

James is a part of the true family, but does he want the rusted crown? Will he war with the father who gave us little devils life?

Johnathan has no true blood ties, and I believe he’s more strongly allied with Simon than Lucifer. Why though? And will he fight against the crown? is the true question.

“Don’t,” Johnathan says with a deep rumble.

“Fuck,” James says the moment my gun is out of its holster and aiming at Johnathan.
