“Hey, everybody, my ass,” Franny says to me. “I texted you?”

“I got it but figured since we were coming here that, you know, I’d see you here,” I say, trying not to sound nervous. “You guys remember Romeo, don’t you?”

“I do,” Franny says. “I dabbled a bit in the acting game.”

Vivienne just laughs. “You had a leaked private sex tape. That isn’t dabbling in the acting game.”

Franny just hits her arm while everyone laughs. “I meant in high school, you dick.” She then turns to us again. “But I did have a sex tape,” she states proudly.

“I’m going to go and speak to Christopher and Matty,” Romeo says, and I’m expecting him to just walk off, but instead, he kisses my lips. “Be back.”

“Damn,” Alex says as I watch Romeo to make sure Christopher doesn’t do anything Dylan would do. “Miss I Don’t Want to Date, you really go big or go home.”

“Okay, enough of that,” Julia interrupts. “I want to know all the details.”

“There really isn’t much to say.” I look at Abigail, who smiles at me and nods in a silent agreement that she won’t say anything.

“When did you guys start dating?” Jillian asks. I think about telling them the truth, but with the truth comes what happened in between. I have no idea how they will react to the news or him, so I just won’t do that to him.

“We bumped into each other when he was here at the hockey game, and then he called me,” I explain nervously, hoping they don’t ask any more questions.

“You gave him your number?” Vivienne says, shocked. “You never give your number.” I shrug my shoulders, trying to remain calm and not panic that I fucked this up by making a fake story. This is why I don’t lie because it’s fucking hard.

“I figured, why not?” I say and Franny holds up her hand.

“But what about his eggplant?” she says in a whisper but not whispering. “Are we talking a grower not a shower, or is it fully ripe, right off the tree?”

“Do eggplants even grow on trees?” Alex asks us, and Franny groans.

“Do I look like a farmer?” Franny huffs. “I’m trying to be PG, and eggplant is the emoji for dick.”

“Thank you for being PG,” Jillian says to her.

“I’m going to go and make sure that Romeo is okay,” I say to them, walking away as fast as I can. He is leaning on the bar in the middle of Christopher and Matty.

“Gentlemen,” I say as they turn and look at me. I squeeze in next to Matty and on the side of Romeo, who just smiles at me. “Enjoying the game?” I ask, and he just nods.

I look at the ice as the play ends, and Christopher and Matty step away to grab something to drink. I look over at Romeo. “Was it okay?” He leans on his elbow, facing me.

His hand comes up to push the hair away from my face. “You are so beautiful,” he says right before he kisses me.

“So it went well, then,” I confirm with him, and he laughs. Turning back and looking at the game, he puts his arm around my shoulders.

“Christopher did say that if I hurt you, he knows people who know people,” Romeo shares, and I throw my head back, and I can’t help but laugh.

“He knows my uncle Matthew.” I shake my head. “He knows people?” I pfft. “He grew up in Long Island and went to prep school. That was his thug life. He got a splinter one year, and he acted as if he got shot in the foot. He even made my parents buy him those boots you get when you break your foot.”

“It’s good to know,” Romeo says, and I stay by his side for the rest of the game. We share a water bottle and a couple more kisses before the last buzzer.

“Okay, folks,” Julia says, “see you guys later.”

“Are we not going out?” Matty asks and she shakes her head.

“It’s in the middle of the week,” she reminds them.

“It’s nine thirty,” Christopher observes. “This is the time they go out and eat in Europe.”

“Well, have fun living your best European life,” Jillian says. “This mamma is going to bed.”
