Page 21 of Tearing You Apart

I couldn’t mingle when the urge to hurt someone was so strong. I wished I was at home with my punching bag, where I could channel this fury into kicks and blows instead of breathing through this anger.

I needed air. And space from this shitshow.

Max

Iwas going to lose it. I’d been trying to find out about Cat since Bunny and I arrived at the Grand Connaught Hall around midday. I thought by floating around her mum and dropping random questions, I’d get some clue about when she would arrive, but Mallory was so busy she actually shushed me. Me!

Then I had to endure Bunny and Mrs Fischer’s babbling for hours while pretending to be interested in fucking roses, followed by letting them dress me up in a cape and crown as they read me my lines. All that, and I still didn’t get to see Cat until after the performance, when Bunny had had enough schmoozing and decided it was time to chat with her. And when we finally did, she was rubbing her body all over her ‘friend’. It was driving me fucking nuts.

I’d been itching all week to see her again. That moment she pinned me down has had a starring role in every one of my sexual fantasies. I haven’t come so hard and so often since I was with her all those years ago. Now I was watching Cat leave the room, alone, stuck hanging off Bunny’s arm like a fucking parrot as she introduced me to all the rich snobs sponsoring her label.

Cat was stunning. Every single moment I was in front of her, she captivated me, even when she was gazing into Dom’s eyes and purring at him like he was her favourite toy. Her dress was intoxicating, the way it clung to every curve, showing the barest hint of her nipples and her pussy. How cruel it was that I could see flashes of her freckles behind the sparkles of her dress and not lick every one of them like I used to. I remembered so clearly where they were, especially my favourite ones, hidden around her breasts and between her thighs.

I couldn’t stay calm when I knew Cat was suddenly free from him. It might be the only chance I’d get to talk to her alone all night, and I couldn’t lose it.

It should have been me holding her. I was the one that brought out her passion, the one she was threatening in her office. I was the one who made her shudder when I stroked her leg. It was me she wanted.

I needed to go after her.

Bunny’s piercing laugh cut through my thoughts, and I tried not to grimace. She was clinging onto Lord Hastings like a life raft, ignoring me the second someone richer and more important appeared. I noticed she’d toned down the chattiness. You’re less likely to impress those potential investors if you’re harping on about makeup and shoes.

“Bunny, darling, would you like a drink?” And a bit of space so you and Lord Hastings can get to know each other better?

From the way the guy had his eyes fixed on her breasts, I think he’d appreciate the offer.

“No, no, I’m having too much fun here. You go ahead. You can find me later!”

I didn’t hesitate, shooting off towards the door I’d seen Cat in front of two minutes ago. I didn’t care if she was in a relationship. She wouldn’t drink me in with those hungry eyes if she was with Dom. Like an animal in heat, she possessed me with the need to follow her, to seek her out and claim her. I’d lost her once. I couldn’t go through it again.

Trying to get to her was like wading through mud. Every person in the room wanted to congratulate me. The moment I freed myself from their grasp, someone else would grab me and hold me down, try to talk about the wedding or the new album, or ask me when Clutch was going on tour. It was easy enough to answer them, but as the seconds ticked by, I could feel Cat growing further from my grasp.

I finally broke through the doorway and landed in a lavish corridor, golden light pouring from the ceiling, highlighting every cabinet, vase, and decorative plate lining the walls. I caught her vanishing around the corner at the end of the longest corridor I’d ever seen, and I ran like an absolute madman to catch up to her.

I followed her through the maze of corridors, losing her twice. I wasn’t quiet, but she didn’t seem to notice she had a tail. She slipped through a small glass door on our right, and I paused. I was eager to see her, but I didn’t know what she was doing out here.

I waited ten seconds before stepping up to the door. Peering through it, all I could see were bushes and palm trees, but no Cat. As quietly as I could, I pulled it open and snuck inside. A path made of thick red slabs disappeared through the thick bushes. I decided it was my best shot at finding her.

I didn’t have to go far. I pushed through to the other side and came out into a clearing. There she stood, magnificent beneath the glass dome arching above her, surrounded by pink flowers that paled in comparison to her. Lights hung above palm trees that stretched towards the ceiling, casting a mosaic of shadows across the room, one of the soft shadows falling around her. Her bare back was to me, and as I inched closer, I saw again how the dress barely scraped her tailbone, leaving miles of delectable skin to admire. All I could think was how easy it would be for me to run my tongue down her spine, and further.

The air was cool and sharp and carried my voice as I called to her. “You look stunning tonight.”

She flinched, turning to face me, her skirt spiralling around her. The spiderwebs clung to her thighs and flared out at her ankles, that dangerous slit riding her right hip widening to offer me a landscape of creamy skin.

Did Bunny know she’d dressed Cat in my colour? We still sold those terrible electric-green hoodies at our gigs. Cat said she loved them and would walk around the house wearing nothing but a hoodie, making it so easy for me to lift it over her hips and fuck her against a wall.

“Did you follow me?” She sounded pissed, and I liked it.

She looked so regal as she glared at me, her voice harsh and cold. I’d never seen her dressed up like this before: her hair styled, her makeup flawless, every inch of her perfection. I’d only ever seen glances when we lived together, as she would always go home to her mums to prepare for whatever event she was attending with her family. I was never involved. All I had were secret clippings of photos I’d taken from gossip rags, usually of Cat with her mum and youngest sister.

“Naturally.” There was no point lying. I wanted her to know I’d attempted to find her.

She was magnetic in the shadows cast around the glasshouse, her dress glittering with every tiny movement, the corners of her mouth hitching as she watched me.

I couldn’t help stepping towards her. Her breasts rose and fell as she folded her arms, her muscles flexing as she surveyed me. I loved how her heels gave her a few extra inches on me, letting her look down at me with disdain.

“What are you doing here?”

“I needed some space.” She shrugged. “Watching you and Bunny parading around and being adored gets old pretty quickly.”
