I’m ready.

CHAPTER THIRTY - ONE

MARIANA

I’m doing this for Kai.

I have to keep that at the forefront of my mind because otherwise, I’d be off the bike and into a comfortable car in a heartbeat.

After stopping in Houston, we’ve just been on the road. I’m unsure where he’s heading, and that’s okay. This is about time for us – time away from whatever shit he has to walk back into and what I’ve got to contend with. It’s been so full-on I feel bone-tired. And, so far, there’s been no phone calls, messages or anything from any of my brothers. It’s a good sign, but it’s only been half a day.

Another couple of hours pass, and I can’t help but start to fidget, trying for a more comfortable position, but my ass is going numb.

“Need to rest up a bit?”

“God, yes. Coffee? Some food? Maybe a bed?” I suggest, already feeling the aches in my back and seat bones. I feel the low rumble of his laugh through his back as I try and take some of the pressure off. “Where are we heading to, anyway?”

“We didn’t set a destination.”

“Well, where are we? Are we just driving?” I ask, looking around for something that has a sign or a clue.

As we approach a rest stop, he slows and pulls in for gas. He fills the tank, and I go in and grab some snacks, stretching out my legs as I do. The waddle back to use the facilities before finding him again is …. Inelegant, to say the least.

“I’m getting the feeling you might not be cut out for long rides,” he says, smiling.

“No. I’m good. I am. But I’d really love to know what’s at the end.” With that, I stretch out my legs and do a funny little squat, trying to put some extra life into my legs and pelvis.

“How about Vegas?”

“Oh, Vegas sounds fun. We can check into a suite. Get glammed up.” Plans start dancing in my mind about all the fun we could have.

“We’ve got nothing with us.”

“I have plastic. That’s all we need.” My excitement picks up at the prospect of having a few days of indulgence alone with Kai. “How far?” I ask.

“We could make it tomorrow if we drive through the night.” He nods in the direction of the road.

I gawp at him. “All night?” Camping out for that one night was bearable because we needed it – sacrifices are important in a relationship. And it was romantic, but I’m just not sure my pussy will thank me for mushing her against a hard seat for 24 hours.

“It’s not so bad.”

I flutter my eyes at him and run my hands over his chest. “And if we stayed at a motel tonight?”

“We’d get in the day after.” He grins and comes in to kiss me, briefly. “Either way, you’re looking at a long stretch on the back of this, baby.”

“Will you teach me?”

“To ride?”

“Yeah. So next time you want to take me off on an adventure, I can be up there riding with you.” And be more comfortable, I hope.

“I’ll teach you for sure. But don’t think it will be any more comfortable than what you have now. Come on, you’ll get used to it, and we’re wasting time.” He gets on and offers his hand for me. “The sooner we go, the sooner we check-in. You can have whatever luxury you want when we get there.”

The journey stretches on, and the excitement and adventure at the thought of being in Vegas with him soon wears off. My body is stiff, my eyes are tired, and I have to fight the urge not to fall asleep as I pull myself tight to his back.

“Kai, I’m sorry. I will fall off this bike if we don’t stop for the night.”

“We’ll pull into the next motel. We can still get there for tomorrow if we set off early.”
